From our local paper...what do you think?

An Annapolis company whose old-fashioned trolleys are iconic in the city's wedding scene has abandoned the nuptial industry rather than serve same-sex couples.

The owner of Discover Annapolis Tours said he decided to walk away from $50,000 in annual revenue instead of compromising his Christian convictions when same-sex marriages become legal in Maryland in less than a week. And he has urged prospective clients to lobby state lawmakers for a religious exemption for wedding vendors.

While most wedding businesses across the country embraced the chance to serve same-sex couples, a small minority has struggled to balance religious beliefs against business interests.

Wedding vendors elsewhere who refused to accommodate same-sex couples have faced discrimination lawsuits — and lost. Legal experts said Discover Annapolis Tours sidesteps legal trouble by avoiding all weddings.

I agree, it's his business, but I think he's an idiot. I also think this is a knee-jerk reaction and he took the easy way out instead of consulting a lawyer and seeing if there was a different way around it (which there probably is).

I was under the impression that as long as it was not a Publicly Held Company that they can do whatever they want. Just as some restaurants/establishments have signs posted that says "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service". or "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone".

Obviously, they are standing by their beliefs -- can't fault anybody for that.

I fault no one for standing on thier beliefs.

But in this day and age, if you are going to start or own a business, you need to learn to keep your personal life out of the business.

If he owned a cafe, would he close it rather then serve a gay couple?

If he owned a cab service, would he close it rather then give a ride to a couple of gay people that had too much to drink?

How about a jewlery store? Would he stop selling rings rather then sell a set to a gay couple?

Or you Rick, would stop selling Rock-It, rather then sell Fuzzy a copy?

One of the best movie quotes, "Its not personal, Its business".

Something I've learned from my many years working in a management school...

It's cool to have your beliefs and to stand by them, but if you're going to bring them into your business, you'd better be ready to pay the price those beliefs carry.

He was a member here a couple of years ago. He is gay man.
I think y'all ran him off! Gay men are cool, I wish there were more because that means more Chicas to go around. They leave the gals alone. Now, the Dykes are another story, they go after all the pretty girls. Why don't they join the military or something????

He still pokes around here and there. He stoped posting to take care of his business and personal life.

I also think the term "dykes" is a little harsh.

I use it with no malice. What word would you use to describe the masculine counterpart of a lesbian? I am curious to know.

Depends on how much you value money, over your beliefs...

If I have a certain belief, I will stand by it, before taking somebody's money. BTW, Fuzzy and I get along -- what he does behind closed doors is his business. I just don't prefer to be involved in it. Does that make me a bad fellow...?

ummmm, lesbian.

So, if someone uses the "N" word, but uses it with no malice, that makes it OK?

No, not a bad fellow at all.

I think he's leaving the business to avoid problems with different advocate groups. If you don't want to do business with someone it's your choice. However, being hounded by the organizations claiming you're the Antichriost os a pain in the ass. If a person has a shady demeanor and throws up red flags you decline their business, but with the same sex marriages you are discriminating against them just because you stand by your principles. In all honesty I don't care who you want to poke, just do it behind close doors and that goes for heterosexuals as well, nobody wants to see tongue exchange when your having lunch.

I believe the PC word is "butch". (femme being the counterpart)

If being a Christian means you to need to inquire as to why someone wants to rent a service or how they spend their spare time, and then deny service to those that don't fit your high moral standards, then that's something I want no part of. I personally think god is not nearly as small minded and bigoted as some try to make him out to be.

So, would he rent to gay guys that didn't get married but slept with 100's of partners?

how about a swinging married couple? What does his religious beliefs say about that?

would he rent to a priest knowing the number of molestations that happened while leaders of the church tried to hide it?

If the sanctity of marriage is so sacred to him, why does he not protest the drunk people who get married in Vegas?

its his business and he has the right to do what he wants.

i have the right to call him a fraud. I think its just as likely He's simply using his "religious beliefs" as a justification for his prejudice.

If you recall, a lot of southern leaders used "religious beliefs" as a justification for denying some citizens some very basic rights, such as what bathroom they could use, or what fountain they could drink from.

the reality is you can twist the bible to mean whatever you want it I mean
