We made the decision just two days ago to get rid of our land line phone. We are finally tired of paying the $74 a month to have one. The only reason we had it in the past was because my wife's grand mother lived alone and we kept a land line so she could call out house if she needed help, or really whenever she wanted to call us. Well, she passed away in 2013. It's been 10 years. All we ever get on our land line phone are telemarketer, political calls, or just straight up spam/robo calls. THe only time I EVER used it was to maybe place a carry out order at a local carry out place LOL. We really should have chose to get rid of it like 8 years ago, but kept it around.

My wife is FINALLY getting into "Trying to save money mode" after all these years. She has been so stubborn to change or getting rid of anything, but after over a decade of making my case, I have finally worn her down on some things and she is admitting I am right! :) In 2 more weeks our land line phone will cease to work.

Do you still have a land line phone?

At one time if you didn't have a land line you did not have a phone.
Used to write of 25% on my taxes. Home office.

If we had chose to get rid of the land line phone exactly 10 years ago, we would have saved $8,880 over the last 10 years. It was one of those things we got used to just always having even though we literally never used it. Every once in a while I would say that we should just get rid of it to save money, but my wife always said it's good to keep around in case the cell phones are out, and we need a way to call out. In 10 years I can recall a single temporary time where cell phone service was all jammed up in the area. Can't remember what was going on, but it was temporary for like 2 or 3 hours. That is ONCE in 10 years.

We also have a CB Radio in the basement that was her parents that still works to this day! LOL.

Only twice cell phones in NJ were not usable… 9/11 and hurricane sandy. 9/11 they were congested for obvious reasons. Hurricane sandy was knocked out and more of a local issue depending on your area and how the towers held up, not necessarily large scale. You drive 5 min you got cell service.

$70 a month is ridiculous. Technically, we do have the home landline as part of the cable package but we dont actually use it, the calls get forwarded to my cell phone. I was going to get rid of it but what would happen is our cable bundle would go up off setting any saving. Pretty much all my calls get sent to my cell phone and my ipads. Cell service is pretty good all over, my wife just got back from Europe. The cell phones worked perfectly we call back & forth all week although the Internet in a couple hotels was slow.

I haven't had a landline since I left home for college. At the time, we had 2 landlines in my parents' home. I used one of those as my "business" phone that was listed on my business cards. I didn't want to change the business cards so I ported that number to my cell phone and I've never looked back.

I had one for a while after my mother died but finally got rid of it. I did that just in case a family member wanted to call that number.

I do but I have it for a couple of reasons. I have horrible cell signal at my house I live in the boonies. Also it is my business phone so it is a write off and basically costs me nothing at the end of the day. If I lived in a good coverage area I would likely dump it though
