Did a Open House Event today, and heard a story I thought I should share

Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming have "Permitless Carry". Anyone who can legally possess a firearm may carry in these states without a Permit/License.Jan 1, 2023

Add Alabama to that list. I got a gun permit a couple of years ago but just heard they've done away with it totally. It's the wild, wild west!!!!

I have never owned a gun and never would. I feel if I need to carry a gun to an event then it's time for me to quit the business. Yes anything can happen anywhere. As I said I'm careful about the events we do, the clients we work for and the location of the event. I'm not desperate for work anymore.

Arizona is a constitutional carry state, you only need a CCP if you want to carry where alcohol is being served and want to skip the background check when buying a new firearm. Getting my CCP(W) is on my list for this year.

having the CCw permit does not give you a free pass when purchasing a firearm. However the background check will speedup the process.

I have never owned a gun and don't want one. I say be selective as to where you agree to do an event. Anything can happen anywhere. I like when an event is in a high class venue in a nice area. A venue that cost good money to have an event there.

I'm pretty sure the definition of "getting jumped" means
that someone attacked you without warning.
Which means they didn't walk up to you, and then ask you t hand over your money.
It usually means they snuck up on you and hit you from behind.
No gun will protect you from something you cannot see coming.
In fact, if the DJ in this case HAD a gun...
the thieves would probably have it right now.

I'm not sure there is a current state in the union where you can "skip the background check." It's federal law.

You are correct! :djsmug:

Mike beat me to the punch. Anyone can get jumped. And, he may have been jumped by multiple assailants with a good chance that each were armed. If he couldn't get all the assailants right away, he would probably be dead.

BTW, my brother-in-law was a beat cop patrolling the worst neighborhood in his area. He had a call about a homeless guy living in a car. He goes to talk to the guy when the radio comes back that the guy is a gang-banger with an open warrant. The guy was bigger than my brother-in-law and instantly clocked him. A 4.5 minute struggle ensues during which his radio changes channel and he can't get any backup. During the struggle, the guy gets hold of my BiL's gun and he tries to shoot him. Thankfully, the gun was a Glock with an after-market safety the gangbanger didn't know about. I mention this case to point out that some bad actors don't care if you are armed. They still think they can beat you and will try. My BiL and three others survived that night thanks to that after-market safety. The guy is now serving a 47 year sentence.

Which is why you need to be situationally aware, armed or unarmed. I'll take armed any day though. They could just as easily have "jumped" him, and killed him anyway.

And yet, you kind of make my point, as well. ; )

Thank God your BiL made it out ok. I think cops need to be thanked often for their service.
My BiL was a cop in inner city Cleveland, in the youth gang unit. They went to arrest a 13yo wanted for murdering his friend, another 13yo. The boy was hiding and tried to shoot my BiL but the gun jammed and the boy was tackled to the ground. The boy had shot his friend because he was missing $50 and assumed his friend stole it, so he killed him. When my BiL booked the kid, the $50 bill was found in his back pocket, he just forgot he moved it. The things cops see and go through on a regular basis is amazing.

Arizona is a state where if you have a valid Concealed Carry Permit, you still fill out the 4473 , but its not processed thru the FBI for them to conduct a background check

CCW holders are exempt from having their background check ran when purchasing a firearm. You simply provide your drivers license and CCW to the dealer. You’re still required to fill out the 4473 form, but it’s just filed with the dealer rather than being ran through the FBI
