I am planning of buying video editing software and am looking for recommendations. I currently use Windows Movie Maker. I would be using it to do little video demos to send in emails to prospective clients, to create home movie compilations, to make video montages for weddings, etc... I am looking for a good all around program with an easy to use interface and good quality output. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I am also looking for a link to download a demo version of Pinnacle Studio 12 but can't seem to find one. If anybody knows where I could find a demo of that program, do tell...

Steve : Depends on what kind of and how deep the editing of videos you plan to do.

The epitome in its class is Sony Vegas Pro 8. There's little messing around in this puppy. The learning curve matches Adobe Audition and Photoshop BUT the results are amazing.

For example, I had a superb Roy Orbison video of Pretty Woman but the sound was disgusting. Load the video, separate the audio, load the original track from a pristine CD, match the bpm with the video, merge, save, and voila. Absolutely perfect music video. Jimmie Malone worked some absolute magic with a live video and a studio video combo of LS with the original CD version of Sweet Home Alabama. OMG, he's good. Another perfect video.

Make your own video mix, mashup, et al. Really great stuff but, yes, that learning curve. (sigh)

I'm about 2% in to it yet it's serving my initial purposes well.

Is there anything that is free out there that will just let you cut a video up?

I have a couple video I would like to just take certain parts out of, but it is not enough to make me want to spend money on a program to do it :)

Won't Movie Maker do that? Already on your PC.....

Gotta love the Amiga references (Video Toaster), I love that one too but too powerful for most people.

On the more normal level I would use Adobe Premier.

Scissors and scotch tape. But make sure it is Scotch brand adhesive tape, that Walmart crap leaves a sticky residue on your fingers, which also leaves a funny after taste when eating cheetos.

If anyone needs anything for this *(ask Hank he already knows)

I have some things here that can help
including tutorials and ebooks

just pm me for info

I've used Pinnacle studio for a few years, but recently purchased Sony Vegas. I just haven't had the time to fully get into the ins and out of the Sony software yet so I'm still doing my quick edits in Pinnacle. Pinnacle Studio is very easy to use.

Here's a quick clip from the 18th Birthday party I did on Friday past. Very quickly knocked together. Hopefully the audio wont be blocked stateside.
