USB 3.0, separate power supply. I have an 8Tb version and has been rock solid (though on the slower side, so not a good VM device )

It certainly isn't a black drive ... The greens and some of the blues are 5400rpm .. seems close to that.

Doing some reading just a moment ago, it seems the green's and blue's - are all now blue - and the Red's and Re's (Gold) are highly suggested. The blue's and blacks are better for performance.
