DJ Laidback Luke is recommending Deejaying with your phone now

The whole "using a consumer device in a professional sound system" argument is a joke considering we all use consumer laptops in our professional DJ rigs. Macbooks, even the "Pro" version are consumer grade electronics available at Best Buy. My iPad has a more advanced processor than any of my...

DJ Laidback Luke is recommending Deejaying with your phone now

You will only see the call notification banner show at the top of the screen momentarily. There is no audio drop out and the phone doesn't ring.

DJ Laidback Luke is recommending Deejaying with your phone now

Algoriddim released the newest version of djay Pro (5.0). It has some pretty amazing updates. They improved their version of Stems by A LOT! They also have some new smart beat gridding technology that can adjust fro songs with varying tempos and the new transition effects are pretty neat as...

What year did you start DJ'ing?

I bought turntables and a mixer in 1989. I did my first paid wedding in 1993. In between 89 and 93 I was just doing small parties for friends and family.

DJ Laidback Luke is recommending Deejaying with your phone now

Ahh yes, The Pros. I didn't realize they were operating back then. I was working for them from 2010-2012. I'm surprised they are still operating.

DJ Laidback Luke is recommending Deejaying with your phone now

Tonight I'm Djing an event using my iPad with djay Pro. It's a very low key event where I'm mostly playing off of a Tidal playlist. I have the app on my phones as well but I need a bigger screen and my iPad works perfectly. I only mess around with DJing on my phone when I'm at home or at a very...

Did you spend more money in 2023 than in 2022 on DJ Equipment/Gear?

I came close to getting the cold sparks but I don't have much demand for it. I've always just borrowed them when I needed them. I have a feeling if I purchased them I would have spent more time using them in my backyard than at events.

Did you spend more money in 2023 than in 2022 on DJ Equipment/Gear?

I spent much more last year. Last year I upgraded my speakers to the RCFs and upgraded my turntables, added Phase and purchased uplighting. This year has been pretty tame as far as DJ purchases. So far my biggest purchase was a set of Shure mics. I have a Rev-5 on backorder but it probably won't...

How was everyone's weekend? BUSY Event weekend for us!

I really could have used that idea for the umbrella this weekend. I had a wedding in a state park. The ceremony was supposed to be outside but it was raining off and on as I was driving up there and when I arrived the family had decided to move the ceremony indoors. The bride had a bit of a fit...

How many events have you booked this year less than 30 days from the event date?

I'd say about 60% of my gigs come to me within 30 days of the event. Since I do a wide variety of gigs I am usually filling in for someone or subcontracting a last minute gig from several other DJs. As mentioned above, bar gigs come in at the last minute and I've had some weddings where the DJ...

    Nexus Power Station

My second gig from last weekend was a short 2 hour event for the local Jack and Jill chapter. It's a family based social group from I can tell. This was another gig I subcontracted from another DJ. The client asked in advance if I had a long extension cord and I told them I did. I had about 200...

How many of you use rechargeable batteries?

Rechargeable batteries are now an important part of my DJ setup. My up lights, wireless mics, Xvive wireless transmitters and my iPad and now my Ceremony speakers all have rechargeable batteries. The day before each gigs requires a lot of battery charging. I need to make a checklist just for...

DJ Speaker Review / Demo Thump Go 8 (Best Battery Speaker 2023)

The ones that are featured in the video that Sonic-vision posted are 8" portable battery powered speakers. I'm not sure about the difference between the ones I bought 8 years ago and the originals other than the color. Mackie Thumps are probably on their 5 or 6th generation by now.

DJ Speaker Review / Demo Thump Go 8 (Best Battery Speaker 2023)

I've had the same pair of 2nd gen Mackie Thumps for the past 8 years. They still work and have never failed me. I never needed to replace parts, paint them or put them in the shop. They still work for rentals and outdoors gigs. They were my main speakers, along with the Mackie SRM 1801 sub until...

How many songs in your travelling library?

I carry about 30k songs but I am looking to trim that down. I keep it all on my internal drive. Having the ability to stream from Tidal really helps cut down on the random songs that I will only play once. My Macbook Pro has 512 GB of space. I'm currently looking to upgrade my Mac but the cost...

I just saw on GC website a controller costing $3,199!

That's like showing up with one speaker. Where do you place it? Just dead center in front of your DJ setup?

How do I hope up two external karaoke monitors?

I was just going through my supply closet at work and found 4 VGA splitters that haven't been used in at least 5 years now. I doubt they will ever be used again along with a big bin of VGA and DVI cables. Time to do some recycling.

Would you DJ a kids party and Facilitate games?

This is when the old saying, "your network is your networth" kinda comes into play. I am part of a very solid circle of DJs that pass gigs on to each other confidently. We are all professional, we know how our equipment works and we have lots of experience. The DJ that I primarily subcontract...

Would you DJ a kids party and Facilitate games?

While I don't do "kid" gigs like birthday parties, I do perform at corporate gigs that require me to run about 3 games mostly involving kids. They usually take up about 30 minutes and are simple games like trivia or scavenger hunts. I couldn't do a gig specifically catered to kids.

    Has anyone actually retired??

I often think about when I may retire from DJing. Currently I am thinking it will be when I turn 55. I just recently turned 48, so I have a few more years left. I beleive the RCF sound system and Mackie Thump Go set that I purchased last year will be my last sound system purchases. I still have...

Numark just came out with a battery powered DJ Controller

Depending on the size of the event speakers like the Mackie Thump Go would work well. I use them for small community cookouts that one of my apartment clients throws every month during the summer. I actually have a fully battery powered system including uplights and wireless mics, iPad and...
