Are you doing anything extra to shield the or amplify line running to the ethercon? I realize many ethernet cables are already shielded but normally I see them used with some sort of DI or step-up/step down unit.

Cross faders and sliders are usually user serviceable and from what I recall only cost around $20 a piece. You could take a stab at opening it up and swapping these or at least buy the parts and have them on hand for the repair guy if you want to save some cash.
