    Struggling tonight, Barn venue,

I had a wedding 20+ years ago in a non-smoking venue and I swear every guest was a smoker. The whole party was just outside the room smoking the entire party. I did get them to come inside for some of the spotlight events but I think the only reason people came back in was because the bride...

Ray Mar passed away from Covid

Just got the news that Ray Martinez "Ray Mar" passed away from Covid today. He has been in a coma and on a ventilator for the last few weeks. His pneumonia had cleared and they rolled out of the prone position so I thought he was getting better. He was on a Zoom call with a bunch of us about 2...

    Gibson sells off brands

Pioneer was at $200M/yr and InMusic was close behind at $130M/yr. I wonder how the pandemic is impacting each. InMusic has consumer brands like ION that sell well in Costco and may be less susceptible to the DJ market. The club market has dried up unless wannabes are spending their unemployment...

Light Up Face Masks for your next Event! Good Up Sell Item?

Reminds me of time 30 years ago when I went to a night club that put glow sticks in their drinks. It was a hot Palm Springs weekend and everyone was wearing lightweight clothing. People would save their glow sticks and you could see them through some materials. One guy put a whole bunch in his...

    CES 2021

Yeah, CES is the biggest US trade show. I have gone for the last 15+ years. I will miss it. I am friends with many of the CTA staff that put the show on. This is a huge bellwether. I am sure many smaller shows will see this as all the proof they need to cancel their events. I waiting to see what...

    Gibson sells off brands

Nine years ago, Gibson acquired the Stanton Group and Cerwin Vega among many other businesses. Gibson lost focus and went bankrupt. It was purchased by investors that brought in new management to refocus the brand. Part of this is selling off non guitar businesses. InMusic (Numark) has picked...

    Outdoor speaker, perm install

I think you will like the results. You get much more even coverage with multiple small speakers. You don't get any bass but outdoors, bass just leads to complaints from neighbors. These garden speakers come in so many varieties (e.g. rock speakers, buried and spiked speakers, etc). One of the...

    Outdoor speaker, perm install

Instead of one speaker, go with many cheaper ones. I have done many outdoor installations with relatively inexpensive 70V tapped transformer speakers like these https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-io655wt-6-1-2-2-way-70v-indoor-outdoor-speaker-pair-white--310-014. They held up extremely...

    Laptop docking stations

I think we are describing the same type of dock just using different terms for it. The laptops had dedicated connectors built especially for the dock. One of my older ones even had an expansion slot in the dock. Right now I have a single external monitor but I am thinking I may go with two as...

    Laptop docking stations

I had Lenovo and HP laptops with those mini hard docks in the past. I was never a big fan of those. There is no such option for my laptop (Dell 7400 2in1) but it is good to know about potential power outage issues with Thunderbolt docks. That is not a big problem by me but the PoCo now shuts...

    Laptop docking stations

Nope. The 2nd video output is DisplayPort, not HDMI. This unit seems pretty attractive https://www.amazon.com/Hiearcool-USB-Hub-11-Compatiable/dp/B07QNRM45T/ref=psdc_778660_t3_B0823BQ4PK It claims 100w power delivery. Price is great but I would have to buy the power supply separately. I am not...

    Laptop docking stations

My laptop is a year-old Dell with an extra capacity battery. That's why it needs 87 watts. The regular battery only requires 65 to charge.

    Laptop docking stations

I am in the market for a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-c) docking station. I haven't looked too hard yet but I do see a large range of prices and a lot of manufacturers I am not familiar with. I also have little experience with the types of problems that are common with these docking stations. Most of the...

It is a thankless job. Thanks for sticking it out as long as you have. I also appreciate that you didn't just unexpectedly hit the kill switch like Sid did when he was ready to move on.

How did you come up with your prices for events?

Since previous advice from the last decade seems to have gone unheeded, I shall propose a new method of pricing never discussed here before. First you need some data including; the current phase of the moon and its phase on the date of the event. You will also need to know the box 1 number of...

    ANOTHER AUDIO-NEWBIE QUESTION

Agreed. I always had my laptop hooked up because Studio Manager gave me a bigger display in full color. What is funny is that I chose this mixer because I could get it with 3x ADAT inputs. My wireless systems were in racks of 8. Each had an 8-channel A-D converter with ADAT output. I only...

    ANOTHER AUDIO-NEWBIE QUESTION

I went to a Yamaha O1V-96VCM after I stopped using the GL2400. It was a lot smaller and had scene automation. The Studio Manager software let me see all faders at once.

    ANOTHER AUDIO-NEWBIE QUESTION

I spent a lot of time with GL2400. I believe I used the 32 channel version. It was a great analog board for the money. Yes, it was quite a beast to move around but that is relative. The 24 channel RAMSA board I once used was about the same footprint (maybe more) and definitely heavier.

    600 MHz is gone

I used to sell those $5K wireless systems but in actuality, the smallest system that made sense was an 8-channel system ($40K). That was a fun job. My main market was broadcast studios.

    600 MHz is gone

The current Series 288 operates from 518-566 MHz so it is legal to use. However, you should check what TV stations are in use in your market. That is where most interference will come from.

    600 MHz is gone

I don't think Biden really cares one way or another. The public has been demanding more and more broadband spectrum. A lot has opened up recently in C-band (4-8 GHz) for new WiFi services and that has created numerous headaches, even for the military. The UHF band is particularly attractive...

    600 MHz is gone

Yeah, this has been posted a lot. I figured I would do it again because we are finally at the cutoff date. The links you posted didn't work for me.
