Dimmer switches are bad for electronics, and LED fixtures are electronics. The manual probably tells you not to do this. Diffusion filters are good anyways, that's a great low-tech way to cut down the glare -and- reduce color fringing.

Exactly what Steve said, that'll work fine. Some people tape a diffusor or windowtint to the front of the Colorstrip to dim it down. Or just point it at the ceiling/floor/walls and not in people's faces, that works too.

Actually, if he's using a Colorstrip and not a Colorrail, it's a 4 channel fixture. Stefan, putting a Colorstrip into DMX mode can be a bit of a pain; I suggest reading the manual closely and making sure that you're doing it right. I had trouble with this myself.

Yeah, the manual isn't much help, is it? Look around in the menus on the fixture...there should be an option somewhere (obviously undocumented) that switches between 6/9/15/24. I don't have one to experiment with, unfortunately.

The Vellman dongle sends out packets slower when it is controlling a large number of DMX channels...or so I'm told. I have not used one personally, but that's what I came across when researching Colorstrip problems. Erratic packet speed is what causes Colorstrips to 'flicker' in color mixing...

Not on the Colorstrip, unfortunately. On other strip lights that I've looked at, yes, but not the Colorstrip, which is 4-channel only.

The Colorrail (or the American DJ strip lights) can address each cluster of LED's individually and do the very smooth effect in that video...the Colorstrips cannot. Only the built-in programs can control each cluster. You'd have to do what DJ Cam said and have each fixture light in sequence...
