This morning, I saw some suspicious activity in my neighborhood. Consequently, I'm looking at putting one of these on my front door, facing the cul-de-sac. My bro-in-law put one on their house and loves it. Wondering if anyone here has installed this unit and whether you have any thoughts in regards?

I just read an in depth article about how insecure the system is. Not really a big deal for a doorbell cam but if you're considering putting any cameras inside your house I'd look elsewhere.

My family has the Ring doorbell and backyard spotlight cameras and we appreciate the surveillance it provides for security, package delivery and other motion activity near and around our home.

My neighbor has the whole house system and he is able to monitor his home on his frequent travels. He endorses it as well.

Personally, I would NOT place cameras in my house.

HA! Well, I certainly have egg on my face. After getting all alarmed, reporting it to my neighborhood watch group and the neighbor where the car was at (a doctor), it turns out the culprit was the good doctor himself. His wife (and mine) have no doubt enjoyed a hearty laugh at my expense this morning. Not sure if I'm ever going to live this one down.............;)

Nah, we have an indoor security system, although it's not hooked up and not monitored. I'd just like to have a camera on the front door, facing out to the street.

Doorbell cameras and alike are the best. We have them installed on our new house and love them.

We were able to catch a family of foxes walk through our yard.

They are amazing.

I personally use the Nest, which is the same concept but just a different brand. I have a number of Google's home automation devices, so I wanted to stay in that same family. But I definitely like having the ability to see the front door from anywhere.

For the ones with the security issues in the news, these were specifically weak passwords. I'm not in any way saying there are not other security issues with Ring (or any of the others) .. but the Ring issues currently in the news are specifically weak passwords.

I'm looking into cameras .. might do a doorbell one, but might do regular cameras instead, since they can be mounted in better locations usually and many are now long term (6 months+) battery powered. Eufy, Arlo, etc.

I need somewhere around 5-6 to cover the house (3 entrances + major window areas) and driveway.

I've been using Wyze cameras around my house. They have been pretty dependable. You can add an on board memory card for continuous recording and they also have 2 way audio like the Ring doorbells.

I've been looking too. A company I do a bit of consulting for uses Blink from Amazon. It's relatively cheap and very clear. The talk option sometimes freezes my phone though

I bought a Blink XT to test .. haven't had a chance yet.

There's a live shot from one of the cams in limited lighting

FWIW, if you have a Ring doorbell, you might want to reset the password - their server was hacked (someone's easy password) and they obtained a whole bunch of passwords.

Security is only as strong as the weakest link - which is usually the end user.

We have the Ring for our doorbell. Works well. Very safe neighborhood but I feel better with my wife being able to answer the door from her phone when she is home alone. When no one is home, being able to answer the door is very handy.
Only downside is my neighbor's son was no longer able to ding dong ditch me😄

I use an early warning D.O.G. system. No one can get within a 100" of my house without the system activating, and it has been dead nuts reliable. The downside is it requires daily maintenance, and every 13-15 years is prone to total system failure - something I wish they would fix because you can get really attached to it. Replacement systems, while similar, often have their own endearing quirks.

While here, I would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays and a wonderful, prosperous New year. Thanks for putting up with my warped sense of humor, Thread stealing, and quirks for another year!

My life is already busy enough without adding surveillance to the mix, no thanks for me.

I bought a Ring last month but have yet to install it. Maybe that's why it doesn't work. Actually, I bought it and then thought that maybe I should get a higher res model. I will probably be getting Arlo Ultra cameras for the outside. They are one of the few wireless 4K models.
