I just bought a Lenovo TB-8504F tablet before my surgery.

Mike nailed it for me.
No, he didn't. Mike specifically said he has never owned an Apple device. You on the other hand, have. I am almost certain that if Mike spent any time with an iPad, he would love it.

You have to go through Apple if you want anything loaded on there or to do anything else.

Actually, you don't. I have many things on my iPad (music, pictures, movies, etc) that were not purchased from Apple. The Apple Store is nothing more than an MFR approved and supported listing of software available from MANY sources. Vendors sell stuff on the Apple Store - very similar to where you'd buy things on other devices. Through iTunes and totally disconnected from any Internet), I can use my iPad as a usb drive. Considering you're technological skills and knowledge, using iTunes as a central management tool would actually be better and safer for you.

You do have to use iTunes for some things - but this is not any different from some hardware released by Microsoft.

Do you know why this so?

Some of this is to protect the device. If you can't see it, you can't break it. I wonder how quick Lenovo will be willing to help when they discover you broke something. In addition, Lenovo will NOT help you with 3rd party support. Again, good luck. In my opinion, you didn't upgrade, you downgraded.

I can tell you. The owner of the company was willing to let people get whatever they wanted for free, just buy his product. The government wouldn't allow him to do so. So he decided to fix the government and this is what he did.

The owner of the company? Apple is a publicly held company, so the owners are the people that own stock. Just because you own an Apple device, doesn't mean you get whatever you want for free. You have to buy products, the same as anywhere else. Not sure how he 'fixed' the Government .. when they also purchase and use Apple products.

Oh boy you’re like one of my friends. Hopefully everything works out. It didn’t for him, he’s just trying to pull his self out of same hole. Without the correct tools & skills I can’t give him work.
I don’t use Apple computers although I have one. iPads are a different animal than their computers. I am all PC but I have to say said the things work and well. I everything do office work, editing video, photos, audio, doing presentations & even my photobooth runs on a iPads. I’m 100% sure that my next laptopk purchase for office/personal use won’t be a laptop it will be another iPad . So far the only thing missing is I need to run Acess. Currently that isn’t available on IOS for some reason. Actually I’m shocked toO because I remember when I first saw a IPad I was WTF am I supposed to do with that.

Yes and no - Apple does not sell Serato controllers. Apple does sell the Apple Pencil.
Again, yes and no. iTunes has no issues and has not taken over my machines. The same has to be said for Windows software - such as McAfee and Symantec. These do take over your Windows systems.

I know, I was generalizing when I said, "take over".
With hardware, you always have to buy Apple brand products. And everything is worthless when they upgrade to a new version.
(no generic chargers, etc)
With software, they don't actually take over......
But if you download Itunes, it wants to use Itunes to control your music, play your videos, and organize your libraries.
(sure, it can be changed in SETTINGS, but it's still a pain)

And your are correct about McAfee.
I got it free for a year when I bought my desktop...
and I was still trying to remove all of it's leftovers, years after I quit using their service and uninstalled it.

Hardware - if we're referring to the computer, sure. I can see that - but this is how they guarantee performance. I bought a Pioneer Blu-Ray player recently for Apple - so it's not specifically 'Apple' devices you have to buy. It's Apple 'approved' devices you have to buy. Again, this guarantees performance and support. iPhone, up until recently, you could use any headphones you wanted. You can still connect to any bluetooth devices. Chargers - my iPad, iPhone and iPod all use the same charger. I have had to change and adapt as standards have changed - but this has been true for the Droid side as well - to include a different charger for each given mfr.

iTunes - it's file association, extremely easily fixed. It does want to be your default app, but what doesn't. Install Firefox and it wants to be the default browser. Install Chrome and watch it happen all over again. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader and watch the 'default' PDF fight between MS Edge and Acrobat.

Thanks for sharing but that last bit threw me off. You like what you like and I like what I like. Enough said.

As for as gigs are concerned, my focus is on the surgery I'm having on Monday. Never mind when is my next gig.

Like I said before when it comes to private events my focus is going away from people with super low budgets and moving up. The fellowship is a different story. So don't think of the 2 as the same. Only way I see to improve is to make changes.

I'm tempted one day to tell a potential client that has a budget between $250-350 to do me a favor and put an ad on craigslist to see what they get and hang up. LOL.

Of course that last bit threw you off - if you were technically knowledgabe and skilled, you would understand it - which underlines why and how you won't use this device any more than you used the iPad.

The point is - if you want 'simple', it doesn't get any simpler than an iDevice. You chose the opposite. This has nothing to do with what you like because you won't use this device any 'better' or 'more functionally' than you used the iPad. You wanted an excuse to buy something. Really, that's what it was. You stated it yourself in Post 1.
I was looking for something to try to make me feel good before my surgery on Monday.
Let's also add that you again overpaid for something.

As for simplicity, people don't choose a non-apple device for simplicity. They choose a non-apple device for non-simplicity. They like more options than are approved by a given manufacturer. This is the opposite of simple.

Personally I could never stand the iPhone and therefore never wanted to learn how to use all the features. Truthfully, it was too "locked down" and simple for me to care. I do however use ipads in Kiosk mode for clients because there are apps that make them ridiculously easy to lock down.

I own an Apple laptop - it is used for Serato and video editing as I find it to run more stable. All my other laptops are Windows - many are Lenovo, which is a solid brand but arguably pricey. My phone is one of the new Blackberrys (hate all you want).

For clients and sales, my third generation ipads work just fine. There would not be any merit to jumping over to something newer and taking on the expense unless there was a particular reason (such as I was writing an Android App or using a lot of multimedia or something).

At the end of the day, a tablet is a tablet if you are just doing basic stuff.

Key words: simple and easy

Absolutely correct - a tablet is a tablet if you're doing basic things - which means if you have one already, a new one is a waste of money.

I forecast RIM not being around much longer. They're not making devices anymore, so we'll see.

Let's keep it simple. Everybody has something they like where another person wouldn't waste their time with it. It's up to each individual person as to what they like.

My partner doesn't like the controller I use and I love it! He has an old one that he's used before and did a great job with it. M e I would go to the top of the Empire State Building and drop it out the window to see if it broke into a billion pieces.

I know I’m going to burn in hell but I couldn’t help myself. Sorry

I was looking on CL and came across someone selling a 3rd generation 64 gig IPad. He wanted $210.00. I went by his store and got it for $200.00. I'm loving it. I get to my GF place and she thought I was surprising her with this. I told her I would get her one after she calmed down. I was just going to give her the tablet I already had. She didn't want that. So I'm going to check back with him to see what other IPads he has for sale to see what kind of a deal he will give me for buying another one from him. I'm making this thread right now using my IPad.

I used to have 2 of the original ones and sold them both. Big mistake. I bought a cheap one just to have. I made that mistake. I'm loving this IPad. What are your thoughts about an IPad.

Lately I haven't charged the iPad in I guess 6 months. All I was using it for was to play songs from YouTube while working that I didn't have. Nothing else. I never loaded anything on it. Just using a hot spot with it to get online.

I did solve one issue. I remember a time when I thought I lost the cord for my backup laptop. I found the original one. The cord on my main laptop gave out. I realized I had the other power cord and all I needed to do was see if I had a piece that would fit in the back of my main laptop. Sure enough I did and problem solved. So no need to spend money on getting another power cord.

Just have to get a micro adapter for my tablet so I can use the SD cards I have and load stuff on my tablet.

I think the point is that you posted that you were using it and loving it - yet somehow now it sucks and you can't stand it. You also stated that you had 2 of the original ones and regretted selling them (in your own words - 'Big Mistake'). This means you have had, used and loved at least 3 iPads - but all of a sudden you hate them. This makes no sense.

What all of this does show is that it defends the idea that you just wanted to buy something and were just looking for a reason to justify it to yourself.

I bought a 10 inch Amazon Fire tablet for the sole reason to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime movies in bed at night whilst wifey is out watching HER few shows on the 70 inch....gotta keep her happy....:pilllaugh:

Got a nice set of Sennheiser headphones and I'm so good to go. No need for an Apple product for my limited needs...

Totally agree - if all you need is a tablet for basic functionality, such as browsing or watching stuff on Netflix or Amazon, any of them will work. To state that the reason you bought (and overpaid for) a new tablet is because the iDevices suck, after you continually bought and used at least 3 of them, makes no sense. It makes even less sense if that money should have gone to bills.

To each their own .. you can get a brand new 32Gb iPad for $329 ... $299 when on sale. So, yeah, maybe $100-$150 more than a similar 10" Android .. not going to break the bank if you're in the Apple ecosystem.

I've said it many times before .. not an Apple fanboy, have no Macs (nothing against them other than price), but they have a very integrated environment. I have an iPhone (as does my wife), several iPads, 2 Apple Watches .. even an older iPod ... all work together .. seamlessly and easily. I can answer texts or even answer my phone on my tablets. I manage all my music for my DJing through iTunes (read by my Serato, Traktor, and PCDJ setups) and easily backup up playlists to my phone and iPads (my watches too if I want). Can't get any easier ....

Agreed - and if you already own several, then it makes no sense to buy another (especially if your complaint is 'the bills'). Also agree that it can't get any easier. Likewise, I am by far exclusively Apple. I have tested, played with and used many platforms and many devices.
