That makes absolutely NO sense. I am QUITE familiar with Apple diagnostic processes and I assure you, there would be no need to wipe a computer to test for a hardware failure. In fact, it would be 100% counter productive to do this. When they check in a computer, they always make sure you have a current backup. That is simply in case they need to replace the hard drive. Nothing more.

And that is why they sell Applecare. You choose whether you want to buy it or not.

I'm not saying it makes sense - I'm saying that's what I was told at an official Apple Store. Taking it to a third party Apple Authorized repair center that deals with business machines did not require this and makes more sense.

I've had very inconsistent experiences with the Apple stores. This same store told me with my last Macbook that something would be repaired because it was recalled. I had weddings for the next two weekends after that so I couldn't be without that computer and asked if I could schedule two weeks out. They said sure yet tried to charge me when I came back since I missed some window. I called corporate and they told me there was a miscommunication at the store level and I should've checked it in right away and there was nothing further they can do. This was back in 2009 or 2010 - as a result, I declined the repair and went back to ThinkPads and they sent me a free iPod shuffle as an attempted peace offering since I was pissed.
 
Most corporate organizations have images (not sure how they do this on the Mac side other than Time Machine) - it takes a few hours. FWIW, Time Machine is much better than ANYTHING that MS has.



So all of your Macs have had issues while your Windows machines have had minimal issues?

Yes...

Powerbook (Mac #1)- Hard drive went out right after warranty. Had it replaced, while in there the tech also diagnosed the logic board as bad. Ended up selling the thing for parts on Ebay. The laptop was always bagged and babied. Total time owned: 1-2 years.
Macbook (Mac #2)- Went through two batteries and a hard drive while under warranty. Top case started cracking after warranty ended. Trackpad, battery, hard drive (again) and power adaptor all went out around the three year mark. The laptop was always bagged and babied.
Macbook Air (Mac #3)- trackpad went out at one year and two months. Currently owned for a year and a half.

My "beater computer" for internet, MS word etc. is a Thinkpad x200 I've had since around 2009 or 2010 (when Mac #2 went out). It still works flawlessly and has never had an issue. The battery still even holds charge. This computer has been put through way more abuse than any of the Macs. Other than that at some point I had one Thinkpad with an overheating issue and a Dell with battery issues. All the other laptops in my inventory I really haven't had to touch.

While possibly true in Chuck's case, I have no know nor desire to know, not correct for this nonsense.

HINT: However, it is the place where a short put is preferred by those trying to get in the hole!

What do you mean nope - NV has TONS of dirt! Way more dirt than grass. :)
 
If someone wants to go, they block that time off. If you really want to go you should. Some DJs say "oh I booked a gig",,, is your business so confined that missing one or even two gigs for the year will make or break you?
Not necessarily "make or break" but one's reputation and loyalty/service to some clients are worth SUBSTANTIALLY more than attendance at some industry expo.

The knowledge from an expo is amazing.
I'm glad you have the experience but the cost for those nuggets were, IMHexperience, of the increasingly diminishing returns sort...just not worth it. YMMV.
