Waiting for guests to start arriving for the Friday wedding. We're doing our basic photo+DJ package at a nice country club. Tomorrow night is a DJ-only at the big Catholic church, downtown Nashville. Bad part is I pulled massive summer cold this week and have hardly been able to get out of bed. I'm hoping and praying that I don't go into a coughing fit will trying to MC tonight. I'm sucking on Hall's and Ricola cough drops and took some Delsym a few hours ago (it doesn't seem to do much for me). Pretty weak at the moment but tonight is only 50 guests and it ends at 10p. Anybody got any special cures on how to squash a cough/cold quickly?

I found that rum and pineapple juice helped my coughing and throat.

Play music as soon as you can to take your mind away from being "tired" or "run-down" with cold symptoms.

I did a double weekend of July 6 and 7; 40th B-Day Party (Country Music concentration) and Wed Reception. Friday 40th was inside, Saturday Wed Recp outside on deck at restaurant. Friday's event was where I used the wireless Sennheiser speaker system for one speaker. It worked extremely well. Glad I purchased.

Anyway, I wasn't feeling well because of stress involving Total Robotic Knee Replacement on Wednesday only a few days away. I'm at home now rehabbing my knee and keeping up with physical therapy (home care). Today was 9th day since surgery--doctor appointment to followup on wound management. I tolerate pain pretty well because I hate the outcome after using Rx Pain Drugs. I've managed pretty well! But right now my friggin kee hurts like Hell because I just finished riding the bicycle at our clubhouse. Lots of adjustments for weight, etc. I've been riding for 15 minutes per day for past 2 days.

Hope your events went well.

Man, I'm sorry to hear about your knee replacement (at least the pain part, not getting it fixed). I have a friend that just had that surgery. Sounds rough.

I made it thru last night okay, but it's obviously not fun when you're having to push to get thru an event. Fortunately, it was pretty low-stress event, only about 50 guests and it didn't go late. Still, this old body was wrecked by the time we got home. Tonight's event may be a bit more taxing. The bride mexican and the groom is american. Will have to stretch on the latina material, as that's the majority of what's on my request list. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. Will be a few months before I consider doing ANY gigs. Got to get ready for Bowling in September and Golf. Thinking ahead.

Did you try the Rum and Pineapple? That recommendation actually came from a seasoned bartender.

We got out too late last night. Wifey says she's going to pick some up today. Thanks for the advice. I'm actually feeling a little bit better today. We're already setup and still have 1.5 hours before it starts. I'm actually kinda digging today's setup, although we're getting a TON of bass at the DJ table. Hoping for a good event.

I'm in the middle of the 2nd gig and just had something that's never, ever happened before. The bride comes up and says "I want to make an announcement." so I give her a wireless. She then proceeds to tell all her guests that "It's Rick Ryan's birthday today." She then proceeds to tell me how much she appreciates me being there, then led the guests in singing "Happy Birthday". This is one for the record books. Good event.

That's really cool Rick. The bride taking time out of one of the most important days of her life to announce your birthday must have made you feel like the man. :dancecool:

PS: A belated Happy Birthday.

Thanks Dan. To be honest, it was embarrassing as I NEVER want to take a bride's spotlight. I'd jokingly mentioned it to her during the sales phone call and she remembered it. It was kinda funny how it happened. She pulled my son over to the side to speak with him. When he came back I asked what was up and he said "It's nothing." A few seconds later, I said something over the mic and started a track and she walked up and scolded me, "Why did you do that? I want to say something." I thought I'd ticked her off but then she started explaining how it was my birthday, called me to the front of the table and led her guests in singing. It was entirely humbling to have a client like that. In fact, both my clients this weekend were pure gold. It was a tough weekend, physically speaking, but entirely gratifying for appreciative clients.
