Karaoke backup vocals on a separate channel

On occasion I have had guests ask if I do Karaoke. I explain that I don't have the system with me, but if they really know the song, words I can make it work. So, I play the song to make sure it is the one they want. Then, I do a "sound" check with the microphone and singer. Next, I sample...

How many events have you booked this year less than 30 days from the event date?

Booked Anniversary Dinner/Dance on 9/18/23 for Sat. 9/23/23. Completed and paid. Two-hour event for me but was necessary to setup by 6:00 pm for 8:00 - 10:00 pm play period.

I don't need to be shown the door, I know where it is.

Could it be that a DJ could also become a "novelty" in the future? I mean, a 70+ or even 80-year-old DJ. Just imagine the decades of music this DJ would bring to the event. No research necessary.

A couple more "new guy" questions about DJ'ing

I've always used 4 rubber "puzzle" squares; three across with the fourth attached to the center piece. The three are just right for an 8-ft rectangular table with the 4th square attached to the middle square which goes under the table. My Monster Power strip sits on that square.

    Rock n roller shelf

I have a R-n-Roller 12 and still works well for me. A month after purchase the company sent me 4 new wheels (solid). Cut 1/2" plywood and covered it with carpet to length that I use to carry my equipment.

Have you dealt with uneven ground?

If you can find the larger rectangular milk crates, place two side by side to put your sub on. Use shims, too. Don't forget to bring a couple of the very large black contractor plastic bags and same for your tops to pull down in case of rain. Never hurts to be prepared. I've even brought a...

Have you dealt with uneven ground?

Use a milk crate (black) to set sub on. Take level with you and small baby sludge. Pound on the corner of the crate to level it. Also, take several pieces of 2x4 or package of leveling shims to assist in leveling the dj table. Worked for me on many occasions. Do site survey so you know how...

Would you use a Subwoofer at this wedding reception?

YES. I would bring subwoofer, but not for the "big" thump but only to add a bit of depth to the sound of the music.

How many email follow ups do you do with prospects who inquire with you?

@tunes4045: Yep, they will move on as you state. But asking for additional information on which to base your fee quote makes it easier to cross them off your "potential client" list. Either they are not that far into party or reception planning or are simply looking for price quotes. I use a...
