This DJ on this site wanted to know about using a Mac computer to DJ with is the thing and if it is why is that? It doesn't matter if you use a Mac or Windows computer to DJ with. What is important is having the right stuff inside for what you plan to use it for. Both my laptops are Windows and the main laptop I use to DJ with is a super old Lenovo from back in the day. I have VDJ 8 to DJ with and have no issues with using it to DJ with. The thing is having enough Ram speed so the program works perfectly. If the speed is not enough then when trying to play a song it will buffer meaning it will not play smoothly. Also important is what is the OS? An older operating system from many years ago will not read the software and will cause major problems. Many years ago the old DJ software programs were nothing like the ones today. The programs of today have more apps in them and require a higher grade operating system then before. For Ram speed I would recommend at least 8 gigs of Ram to use with the DJ software of today.

To be fair to Mac users some wouldn't use anything else just because to them it's better.

Maybe they use MegSeg.

.

There's a little more to it to that

And some PC users wouldn't use anything else...Some Samsung users wouldn't use an Iphone. It's all preference

an FYI, vdj 8 came out around 2014, so you are a a bit outdated. If you are killing it with 8yo software, you’ll be dangerous with modern software😁

Also, you can be killings it all you want with the software, but if your car gets towed at a gig, you no longer are killing it. You be gettin killed. 😁

I won't mention what version of Mixmeister I'm running ;)

Since you brought it up when do you decide what's good enough? I just say new things are being invented all the time. That's how they keep tempting people to buy the new item that just came out. Normally at a higher price then the one before it. If something is working just fine, then why buy the latest thing that just came out? I still use my Denon DN MC 6000. Never mind buying the latest controller that just came out. I do a great job with what I use. I could upgrade to the latest VDJ version. Will that help me be a better DJ doing events? I'll say it again, if you suck as a DJ no software will help you improve.

For me, what’s ”good enough” isn’t what I think about. i think about what’s going to make my events better. I typically buy software that includes upgrades so if there’s a fea that can help me do my job better or easier, I like to have it. VDJ’s feature of removing vocals came out a few years ago. I’ve found that handy on occasion. Ots search feature options is something I love.
equipment and software will never be more important than the dj. But I don’t mind people knowing I’ll have very modern equipment and great tools to do the job The best I can. I recommend people spend more on entertainment for Me and not just get “good enough “. I take my own advice.

Lol..I’m a software snob and typically want the latest version

Funny story I used to do the same thing. I bought V6 in 2004 or so shortly after release I had upgraded right through the versions from V1 or 2. Version 7 was supposed to be the best ever I bought it and I HATED it. I tried hard to like it but no go. I wound up reverting to V6, with a short stop on VDJ, and stayed there since. As of Win 10 it still works when it stops working I'll have some tough choices to make. I haven't tried V7.7 but apparently it's closer to 6 than V7 is that might be the route I go. I do use VDJ for video

I don't know about that. I love VDJ and I kill on it. You can have the best DJ software program. If you suck as a DJ nobody will care what program you use.
And if you don't get the chance to use it at a gig, because you don't have any gigs, then you are only killing it at home. And nobody cares.
