My friend asked how much longer will I be DJing?

In radio, any song over 20 years old
Is an oldie.
Lose Yourself by Eminem is now an oldie 😁. Doesn't make me feel TOO OLD!😁

I always considered oldies when speaking with my clients as what they’re parents generation listened to. It’ll be different for everyone. My sweet 16 clients have a different definition than weddings. Also the stuff that’s 20 years old… those are throwbacks

For me it depends on the crowd. What some will call oldies other will not think the same.

The definition of oldies music according to Wikipedia:

Oldies is a term for musical genres such as pop music, rock and roll, doo-wop, surf music (broadly characterized as classic rock and pop rock) from the second half of the 20th century, specifically from around the mid-1950s to the 1980s, as well as for a radio format playing this music.

After 2000, 1970s music was increasingly included,[1] "Classic hits" has been seen as a successor to the oldies format on the radio with music from the 1980s serving as the core format.

Me personally, I would not consider anything from the 90s "oldies" music. Anything older than Disco is essentially oldies to me. can't see 80s as oldies either. I describe 80s music as well, 80s music lol Maybe I use "New Wave" as a specific genre when speaking with couples. "80's Rock" is also a bit more specific. I can call Hip Hop from the 90s as "Classic Hip Hop" "90s R&B" etc. Then there's "Late 90s/2000s pop"

When I think of oldies, I think of Beach Boys, Beatles...any 60s music and early 70s music

So never really knew when I would call it quits but the decision was made in the last month that this will be my last year. Right after Xmas I thought I pull something in my stomach so I had a Ultrasound done and there was no tear but they found somthing on my kidney. Get it checked out and it was cancer caught extremely early and by accident (doc said would have been a couple years before it should up in routine workups). So this past week I had the kidney removed and should have no issues after that. With that being said I haven't worked since I found out and will not be able to for another 2 months because of limitations. All of my clients have been told and I have matched them up with good DJ's to make sure they get what they want and even offered refunds which no one took me up on. Now with all this going on I started to think about what I wanted to do and after talking with the wife I decided to call it quits after this year is up. I will fulfill all the gigs I can and will not take on any new ones. Life is short time to retire and start to enjoy what I worked for.

Best of luck with your retirement! About 10 years ago, my wife had a kidney stone. When they saw it on the X-ray, they noticed another spot that they said was probably nothing but needed to be checked out. It turned out to be an aggressive form of cancer that would not have been treatable if it wasn’t caught early. But since they saw it early due to the kidney stone, it was removed without any issues. We were very lucky and she’s been great ever since.

I will keep you in my prayers. Hope all goes well for you and me. I had to find out the day after my 63th birthday I have Prostate Cancer. So I understand what you're going through. Billy Joel song says Keeping The Faith. God bless buddy.
