I LOVE Uptown Funk. When it came out, I just knew it was going to burn the floor up. I don't know about you guys but from my perspective it has always been a dud. Nobody knows how to dance to it.
Just overplayed... lost its excitement and therefore not as motivating to get people to move. I also speed it up quite a bit if I were to play it. At least 120bpm

@djtaso Last night I had a pretty young crowd that really wanted to party. So sure enough I threw New Rules on and it was a banger. This was a perfect storm for it, but good call.

Edit - I played New Rules too lol, but apparently that isn't the song I took the video of. Either way, the Dua Lipa stuff went off.

Good stuff! There’s a few hidden gems out there. The other song popular right now is “Friday” dopamine re-edit

I actually think there is a lot of good music out right now. Here is a quick list, which excludes Friday and a few other really good hits that might be more popular.

I tested Never Going Home by the Kungs last night it worked great. Mixes terrific with Friday.

That may be true out by you. People out my way just seem happy to have an open dance floor again. I think they have been locked down so long that now they will dance to any song they recognize, even songs that were guaranteed floor killers back in their day.

We went to see a woman perform a few weeks ago that is known for her Stevie Nicks covers. She was just singing over karaoke tracks. There was no live band. She had a packed floor. Don't you remember how Fleetwood Mac's "Sara" used to bring everyone to the dance floor? No? Me neither. It did for her though.

Where’s “out by you”

I'm in a sleepy little county northwest of Los Angeles. Lots of live music here but only one or two small nightclubs.
Gotcha, I know a few dj's in LA that have been doing a good number of weddings over the last 6-8 months. They're definitely much more upscale affairs, some outdoor, some indoor. Just took me by surprise when you said people are happy to be out again, when I was under the impression that weddings had been ongoing for a while.

I really can't speak to weddings these days. I'm just too far removed. Indoor dining only resumed a couple of months ago. I don't know what the country clubs were doing but the hotels were not having events.

Taso,

I am in LA too (well right north of it), close to Sawdust, and there have not really been weddings going on up until a couple of months ago. Not a single venue was allowed to have them. I did a few during 2020 but they were at houses and under the radar. I did end up doing one at a venue that did everything hush hush and no social postings (outdoor of course) but that was rare.

Who do you know in LA?

when the govn'r of pa removed the mask mandate things picked up, but only EARLY - most places are vacant by 9 pm. It seems to be slightly better lately.

I did a car cruise at a bar wednesday night - the biggest crowd they've had since pre-pandemic times.
I've not heard of any bars having live music yet...but I don't hear of all of them. That bar is doing a solo act sat night, their first since, well, pre pandemic.

LASt wedding was, as it typical of the past year, a barn, aka 'outdoor' venue - less or no rules, but people did dance. THey seem to be starting that again.
Very little dancing at the reunion last weekend..but it was a 50th so lots of bad knees LOL. Slow dances did well late, typical of HS reunions.

Oh, class of '71 - so lots of good music.
Same for the car cruise!

I am spinning for my 40th in September.
Fortunately, it's an outdoor picnic at a local pool,
so I don't expect a lot of requests for actual DANCE music..
especially from a bunch of "almost 60-somethings".
But I am bringing it anyway.

PS
I was actually in Beaver/New Brighton last weekend.
I woulda called you, but we went out cause my mom is having a stomach issue and lost 72 pounds.
Plus, I brought the wifey.
