Is there a special setting for shutting off my new laptop?

Before I take a beating on this I bought a Lenovo laptop I think last year sometime. I bought it new. It works great. I paid a little over $600. I have 2 issues with it. First I didn't know they stopped making laptops with a CD draw. So I hate that but it is what it is. My other issue that I'm asking help with is when I shut it down and close it up, it doesn't shut off. It's super thin and the it touches the power button. Is there a way to shut it down and when you close it the power button stays off?

Yeah get one that isnt broke.
Jimmy where did I say it was broken? I said sir that it's so thin that the power button keeps get turned on when you close the screen down. My partner has a new HP his GF bought him and same thing happens with his.

Mix not being sarcastic here but do you know how to properly shut down a computer? I don't mean push the power button

The issue is not shutting the laptop down. The issue is once I close the lid on the laptop it hits the power button leaving the laptop still on even though I've shut it down.
It's highly unlikely the design of the laptop would cause that. You never really answered Jeff by saying whether or not you do the steps he showed, rather you dismissed it. It's likely you're not doing a full shut down, rather just engaging sleep mode or something similar. Likewise if it was pressing the power button, you'd likely be hitting other keys causing other issues. If there really is a defect in the design, you should be returning it.

Thanks. I do a shut down like the video sats. I believe that was a desk top in the video and not laptop. My older one doesn't stay on when I close it. That one has the power button in the middle. The other one is on the right side and when closed there's no separation. The older one the power button is sunkin in a bit.

The video just shares a screen capture... there's no way to tell if it's a desktop or a laptop, so I dk how you made that assumption. I have pcs for lighting and such with the button on the right side being flush too. I still don't have that issue.

My suggestion... take a video of yourself physically shutting down the computer... and then showing us that it turned on on its own. I know that may be challenging for you to do, but it's really the only way for anyone to help you. Until then, it really does sound like user error. Or at the very least take a picture of the power button on your computer.

Mixy how do you know the laptop is turning on when you close the lid or is it turning on when you open the lid?

Not having the CD-ROM isn't an issue anymore. They make several varieties of outboard USB CDROM drives which run about $60 unless you opt for BluRay.

I've removed all my CD-ROM drives from my laptops and replaced them with a hard drive caddy. The extra storage space at optical drive speeds is tremendous, thus eliminating the need for any external drives.

For the lid issues, put a piece of heavy construction paper on your keyboard before closing the lid. It will distribute the pressure. That being said, any workaround for what you describe should not be needed. Keep an eye of their support pages to see if there's a fix or recall.

Go into your settings on that laptop and change the settings for "What happens when you close the laptop lid".

My guess is you have the power button and lid closing set to "sleep" and then it wakes when you open the lid. Or your lid close setting is set to do nothing. As phase said, these things can be adjusted in power settings.

I have my power button set to do nothing so it doesn't turn off if I accidentally pressed it. My power button is right next to the escape key.

I shut it down through windows.

It's absolutely understandable that someone like my mother in law who uses a laptop very rarely to not know of these settings. Someone who has been using a laptop for their business for years to not know this is shocking
