I just saw on Ebay yesterday a Denon DN MC 6000 for sale. The price was dropped from $240 to $200 with free shipping. My DJ friend was nice enough to loan me money to get it. So I decided to take a chance since the seller rating for this person is 100%. It saaid it should arrive between the 9th and 14th. Just hope it works perfectly. Next thing to get is a case for that controller like the one I got for the MK2. Once it's delivered I will tell more about it. Just have to get it setup with the drivers using VDJ since they are different from the MK2 version. I just love having backup gear because you never know what might happen or can happen.

$200 wouldve gone a long way in marketing as opposed to a backup controller for the events you dont have.

Have you thought this through? Having a backup controller that isn’t identical to your primary controller means you’ll have to do some configuration changes on your computer after you swap over. That is unless you have a backup computer that’s already configured too.

I don’t use VDJ, so maybe it’s faster, but the setup with Traktor requires a different MIDI map file setup, which takes several minutes, in addition to the other Traktor software configuration changes. I know this because I had this situation for a while, when I used my American Audio VMS 4.1 as my primary controller, and a Pioneer DDJ-T1 as a backup. I practiced the switch many times, but I was really glad I never had to do it live. Fortunately, controllers are pretty reliable if you take care of them. A backup controller for you is a really good idea.

I know the drivers are different but it should only take a short time to switch drivers.

You got one that they list as "In working condition, heavily used." And "Left channels play at lower volume."

So, it's an end of life unit for someone, that doesn't match what you currently have, and you had to borrow to get it .. sounds like a plan.

Sounds exactly like a DRAMAcho plan.

My rule on purchased equipment is that it must meet one of the following criteria, and in this order of hierarchy:

1. Advancement: Breaks through a limitation or problem I am experiencing presently or imminently.
2. Efficiency: Reduces the time or expense associated with what I already earn.
3. Improves Revenue: Directly enables bidding on better paying jobs.
4. Maintenance: Replaces something already proven indispensable.

There will always be a better way to do something. The key to making money is finding a way to do it with the resources you already have.

New gear is potentially worthless if we are not also upgrading the following as we go:

1. Experience
2. Education
3. Training

If I had a nickel for every DJ I've met who doesn't know how to fully use the gear they already have...

I don't know if this is the case but could it be possible that the drivers would conflict especially on a hot switch? I'm not thinking of you here I know you could handle the problem I'm thinking about the OP

In my case, the ASIO drivers were different, which required software configuration changes. You can load multiple ASIO drivers on a computer, and the software will only use the driver you select in the software. You can have multiple MIDI maps pre-loaded as well, as those can also be configured in the software. Like I said, I don’t use VDJ, but there was a short time when I did, and VDJ did a much better job than Traktor at the automatic configuration. I don’t think there’s any difference between the ASIO driver between a Denon MC6000 and the MK2, so that might not be an issue, however that’s just a guess.

Steve said the drivers are different. All is needed is the drivers for the original loaded in and just go to configure. Hopefully I won't have to use the backup but you never know. Better safe then sorry.

You better practice pulling the plug on the Denon v2 while it's running and seeing how long it takes to get the older one up and functional .. it might be a LOT more than a couple minutes.

...or, as expected and predictable, wait until the very moment you need the b/u, make the switch at the optimal stress point and confirm your complete lack of professionalism and knowledge.

Why change your M.O. today?

Needs to be THOROUGHLY tested. Not just the physical part of switching cables and configuring software, but actually testing functionality after all the physical stuff is done. Even though the drivers are different, you never know what kinds of conflicts you’re going to experience. Software developers are lazy, and don’t always test for conflicts even (especially) between different versions of their own drivers. They don’t necessarily think about DJ’s having multiple versions of drivers on their computer.

C'mon Bob,

Did you not see the sign when you entered this zoo:

It's not a backup if it's not immediately accessible (and I mean within seconds.)

To me - backup means that if the bridal couple's first dance song craps out in the middle of the dance - I have a way to immediately recover and continue that dance despite whatever interruption occurred.

If you have to switch or load drivers, or even just plug something in it's not backup - it's called: spare parts.

What the hell are you talking about Bob?

Mix, BTW, doesn't your "partner" have a controller and couldn't THAT be used as a backup? Why do you have to go into hock to buy all the gear?

Borrowing money to buy gear that you dont need to get through a gig is a big no.
borrowing money to buy gear during a global pandemic is another big no
buying gear that’s not in top notch condition is another big no
not knowing how to fix gear that’s not in top notch condition...is..you guessed it..a no
not being very familiar with your back up equipment......

Just for your information that controller he has was the cheap one I bought when the gear got stolen. With that controller you have to use a mixing board to hook it up so you can use it. He has the drivers for that cheap one. I personally can't stand that one. I'm a BIG fan of the Denon's. One thing that's mandatory for me is that the wheels on the controller is free moving easy to spin. This controller is a backup for me. He doesn't like either one because he says they have to much stuff to figure out. Me I LOVE both of them. With those controllers no need to use a mixing board for most applications.
