Anyone using the Phase DJ setup? If so, what are your thoughts now that they have been out a while?

I checked YouTube to see what this unit is all about and wanted to know what is the reason for this unit?

You said that you looked it up on You Tube, so what did you gather from the video you watched.

It’s used to make your subwoofers very, very loud. If you have 2 subs, it makes it sound like 4. If you have 4 subs, it makes it sound like 8. And on and on, you get the idea.

French company MWM has announced a new product called Phase that sits on your turntable and allows you to DJ audio files with vinyl, without the use of a needle. Phase wirelessly translates a record’s movements into timecode, which can then be read by Digital Vinyl System (DVS) software like Serato and Traktor.

Haha. Correct, but you ruined the fun.

I have them. But I haven't used it nearly as much as I thought I would.

Most of the nightlife spots I play have CDJs not turntables. And my home turntables are in almost-perfect condition so I'm not really worried about the bad contact points, etc. And in my home system I also don't have the bass rumble issues and other stuff you avoid with Phase.

That being said... the tech is really cool. They work well, the response is great. I'd love to have an actual gig I could use them on and at the very least I think they make a great backup if you're worried about setting up on a turntable that isn't in perfect condition.

It really doesn't qualify as "tech" if the purpose is to revert to an outdated vehicle.

The vehicle isn't so much outdated as the "gas" is ..

Phase is awesome and they keep getting better. I have met the owner who is a great guy and they are really addressing their customer's concerns.

It's a super cool product, although I am still going through my needles (will replace with Phase) as soon as I wear them down.

I am actually in the process of trying to rep for them as one of their showcase DJs to demo the product but with Covid and all, I am not sure when they will be doing that.

If you're in this for a career there are better ways to control music files than hauling around turntables, interfaces, and over sized mixers. Also, the whole scratching and turntable thing is passe' and belongs in a museum now. It's not even characteristic of Hip-Hop anymore. If you work in club few people will actually see or pay attention to what you are doing. If you're mobile, it's a lot of extra effort to appear nostalgically authentic that doesn't actually translate into more income.

true, there are better, easier to move and haul around options (hints why I use a controller for a lot of events), but still, none that are as tangible, tactile, and feel as good as mixing on vinyl. I always perform better on turntables and get much more satisfaction out of doing so.

The Rane 12s are the closest things, and they aren't perfect either. Funny enough, the weight is about the same, so Phase is attractive!

It's not about providing more income, it's about a better experience.
