So I've been tasked with spear heading a committee to seek out, purchase, and have installed live streaming system in our church. We are looking at a 4 PTZ camera system. These matter of fact (https://ptzoptics.com/sdi/#video) with the 20x zoom. The vendor says we would need to run an ethernet cable and an SDI cable to each camera back to the A/V booth to where we would have the mixer, software, etc. My question is if these cameras have PoE would we need the SDI cable ran or wouldn't the ethernet provide power AND control for the PTZ functionality along with transmitting the system back to the booth.

As described, SDI would be the video and audio interface and ethernet would be your controls and power. From the booth, you would stream the presentation to the Internet. SDI is what they prefer for 1080p @ 60 fps over distance. Each of these cameras is able to stream across ethernet and the Internet - but I believe you would need a different configuration to consolidate everything and then transmit a single presence over the Internet.

When you build this, please include network and camera security in your configuration. Make sure your data switch is capable of providing the PoE that is needed.

Ethernet might be able to do IP streaming, but latency for live work might be an issue depending on topology and switching. Keeping the video feed separate makes sense and SDI would be preferred over longer distances to eliminate the need for gain stages/repeaters.

Do they make a cable that has ethernet and SDI Siamese together that cut cut in half the number of lines we'd have to run that anyone knows of?

Is there a way to make sure the coax is rated for 3G-SDI signal?
I'd bite the bullet and put in cabling for 4K/60p (I guess they call that 12G). Quad shield RG6 should be sufficient I believe.

You can use a better quality cable, but I would not make single-link 12G the production standard for a church project. The gear you need to operate at that platform level is not going to be available or within your budget. You might find a Black Tragic ATEM system advertised at that level but it will be loaded with proprietary headaches.

3G SDI is plenty for the intended purpose. If you will be recording for other purposes then shooting in 4K would be better, but you don't need that to be streaming. Unless you can go all 4K without much additional cost I'd stay at 1080p60/30. This will also accommodate greater cable lengths without additional clocking devices.

These are the cameras we will be utilizing with the 20X zoom.

Anyone have any leads on locking A/V furniture like the one pictured here? We are looking for a workspace that will secure all the equipment we will have. The one pictured here was quoted at $3225.00. 83665EE9-C0FA-48C0-9026-E887633B849D.jpeg
