What do you think of rap in 2020 it's a farley new year ( not really ) and rap one of my favorite genres always change so what's it like now we've had good songs bad songs amazing horrible ect. But thats just what i think so what about you?

I try to keep an open mind...but im fighting against my love of the stuff i grew up on... late 80s thru the 90s... i loved the positive message of the Native tongues sub genre... Tribe... De la Soul... Leaders of the New School...etc... and stuff from KRS 1... Brand Nubian... Gang Starr....Jedi Mind Tricks...etc... Even some of the more danceable stuff had its merit from those days...

The new mentality and mumbling is hard to wrap my head around...but a few talented cats are doing some good stuff...

Personally, I think it's been pretty much stagnant for the past few years.
(at least the stuff that is played on radio)
It's all the same tempo, and you can't dance to it.

You can play it in a club... almost none of it works at private events.

People are definitely into the Megan Thee Stalion stuff right now. And I know Roddy Rich gets lots of radio play, but I don't like it as a dance track.

Its been a few weeks since I've played out now. But I was starting to notice audiences more open to house music than just hip hop all night. I'm hoping we can finally get back to a more balanced set where I can do 30-45 minutes of house, instead of just 10-15 and having to dump back to hip hop.

Well, I was around at the very beginning of it all, even sitting next to a major rap artist in high school. I used to the one who used to mixed the breaks for the MCs & rappers so they could do their thing. My company actually got big in the college market by not playing a lot of rap but a mixture of many other types of music, some just starting to break in the 80s, like house, Reggae, Latin. But where rap lost me when it became violent, not positive, degrading, nonsensical & overly filled with profanity for no good reason. Since I do karaoke not only do I hear the words, I see the words. Now in my personal life, I switched to XM & IHeartRadio to stations/channels who don’t play any rap music. Now Business-wise I still do what I have to do with limitations because that’s what the students listen to. Some stuff I won’t play. I remember a conversation with my son about one song. I told him I wouldn’t play it just based on the title. Played the song the second word was a profanity. There are some songs I grew up with from time to time wouldn’t mind hearing occasionally.

If you into the music I say just use some social responsibility. Keep it positive & fun. And for Pete’s sake annunciate.

I hate mumble rap ..
Im sorry for my generation for ruining rap lol love to listen to the OG's cause nowadays music is wack. I do like some new rappers but the tends to be very lyrical like K.A.A.N Joyner Lucas Freddie Gibbs or my personal 2000's rapper NF. It would be wrong to say you an idiot for listening to mumble rap cause my brothers hates rap but it's just not for me AT ALL!
