Decided I'd start doing something for my wedding couples to hopefully set me apart from the typical (I'm assuming others around here don't do this but don't know for sure). A few days before the wedding this past weekend (Gig report coming. Video just got done today). I ordered some cookies for the bride and groom (going with a dozen Champagne Cookies next time). These were an iced bride/groom). I dropped it off at their home and wrapped up a few details regarding the reception. Just trying to add a bit of a personal touch. The tag inside simply says, "Thanks for choosing JuJu Lab for your wedding entertainment needs" and then I wrote a personal simple note. Anyone doing something similar? If so, what do you do?

If I do this, I don't do it until after the event. If for whatever reason, they were to back out (or cause issues), you went through the effort (which is good btw) but you still didn't perform. Also, after the event, the personal note could be customized to the happenings at their specific event.

The downside to afterwards is the couple might be gone for a week or 2 and then you need to track them down ..

Have you had couples cancel a handful of days before the wedding? Yikes! I haven't had that happen yet. I delivered this on a Wednesday night and the wedding was Saturday.

Point really being that anything can happen up to the day of any event, to include weather. I have not had a canceled wedding, came close on one.

Also, if you're writing a personal note, you have much better information to use after an event than before one. A gift as proposed is a 'Thank You' - imo, it's kind of hard to thank someone for something that hasn't happened yet.

Very kind gesture!!

i like to wait til the dust settles to do anything similar... let their family and friends stop doting over them...then they will truely appreciate a lil extra love

Would you care to share about the one that was close to canceling? We did one with a days notice because the DJ that was supposed to do it called the morning before the wedding day telling them they couldn't do it. Sad but true story.

I like the gesture but, to be honest, I hate it when any service company uses the term "your needs".

I agree...Drop "needs" and it would be fine.

I also would not do this until AFTER the event. At the earliest, leaving the gift box on their table. I do not do this stuff though. I think that more thoughtful would be mailing them a gift on their "1 MONTH ANNIVERSARY" after the wedding. This way your performance is still fresh in their mind, and if they have not left you a review, it might prompt them to. They will also be more likely to refer you after this. Referrals don't occur as often as time marches on and your service is not fresh in their mind any more.

Years ago I use to mail out cards at the one year anniversary mark, but I stopped doing that. Too much to remember to take the time to do that, and I also had a few returned to me because they did not live at the address I had on file for them any longer.

Things happen and people sometimes make the decision to pause, wait or not go through with things. It happens. Sometimes people get cold feet. Sometimes a persons behavior or actions changes a decision. Sometimes the weather impacts an event, as in a couple plans an outdoors event with no backup and it's raining, snowing or there's a tornado. I will not go into specifics because this was a personal matter to the couple and their families and does not need to be aired out and picked apart on a forum.

"Thanks for choosing JuJu Lab for your wedding entertainment needs"

"thanks for allowing me to be a part of your special day.

How's about a nice thank you to any client that books you? After the event you can send a nice thank you for them choosing you to be their DJ. That could go long way in customer service.

Back before I knew it was illegal...
I used to put all of the songs I needed on a CD...(which I used at the event)
and then make a fancy CD cover with their names on it.
And I gave it to them personally at the end of the event.

Had a lot of clients who told me they LOVED listening to that CD...
even years later.
