Got the job for November 30th in Paterson, NJ. That's great. A member was there said he has the key to the elevator. So hopefully we can use the elevator. That's a big plus. Just using 2 tops and 1 sub. Now for those who say just use the 2 tops that won't work. The committee will expect you to not short change them . I don't know how many people will stay for the dance. My experience is the speaker portion runs so long that by the time the dance is to start a lot of people are tired and ready to go. I learned to not worry about that. Just do my job and get paid. After that pack up and go.

Just got to give the crowd a little different flavor for the music a bit. I got the first song I plan to play. The Footwork version of Love On Top and I think next Naughty By Nature. So far that's the next event and I will be the DJ that night. They will only want to hear me play. No problem! It's all DJ Macho Man this time.

It's all about just keeping busy working so others can see you at work and recommend you for other jobs.
Only if you want more low paying jobs. The people that come to the events you mention are not ones that can help you move up the ladder.

Don't worry I got a aim for something and when it comes I will spill the beans. I don't want to jinx myself by letting the cat out the bag.

This ...

How does anyone know 2 speakers and a sub will or won't work without knowing the size of the room/ set up of the room and how many people are expected?

It's all about understanding what the client/event wants and needs and providing that. I sometimes don't look busy because I've planned and executed things properly.
If people aren't impressed with what going on, keeping busy is not going change their impression.

I played in the room before. I know. This room is about the size of a gym. I think it might be.
Yeah but you didn't share that with us in the original post.

Let me say this. I understand most are thinking of a private event that a DJ is doing. That's usually where a client will give you an idea of how many people are to attend the event. Here the event is put online and flyers are made up to pass out at meetings and areas about the event. The committee has members who help to sell tickets. Then there are those who will pay at the door. So there's no telling how many people will show up for the event. There you have the difference.

My job will be supply the gear, do my job and get paid.

The other difference is you are describing a promoter and if you are being paid based on the people buying tickets, you might be included when ASCAP/BMI/SESAC come after the promoter for the fees they probably aren't paying.

No sir nothing like that. It's a speaker Jam and dance where they sell food to get their seed money back and hopefully make money over that to give back to the area.

If they sell tickets to the public or collect fees at the door, then they (and possibly you) are probably promoters .. that's basically the definition.

As they say, ignorance of the law is no excuse ..

Again, you've done more than enough of these that you already know exactly what will happen and approximately how many people will stay.

If history holds true it will be about 20 people in a really large room....A decent Ghetto Blaster would be plenty
