Back to the regularly scheduled thread topic...

I have done a lot of work in the area of outdoor noise control. I have several text books on the topic as well. I also have copies of the noise ordinances of every city I have ever played in as well as the counties. That said, complaints come down to these fundamental rules.

1) Anyone can complain for any reason
2) The officer responding a) won't know the ordinance b) won't have a level meter) c) wouldn't understand one if you showed him one
3) If you fail the attitude test with the responding officer, you will fail in the situation. Make the officer's life easier and he will make your life easier.
4) Any person can file a criminal complaint for disturbing the peace. It is up to you to defend yourself in court.
5) People will complain about the venue they know of even if the noise they hear is from somewhere else. Officers won't investigate.

Of all the noise ordinances I have reviewed, only LA County's makes any practical sense. It is based on long-term exposure and not instantaneous meter readings. However, long term exposure readings cannot distinguish overhead plane noise, from a V-twin bike, from music, from crowd noise. You need a recording of the actual event to do that. Good luck trying to defend yourself in court.

There are things many DJs don't realize about outside noise.
1) The distance sound travels is determined by wind, temperature gradients and reflecting objects
2) 200 people singing Sweet Caroline can carry sound farther than your speakers
3) Neighbors will still hear the dirty lyrics despite your collection only have clean lyrics thanks to the cocktail party effect
4) Bass notes and people shouting generate the most complaints

I feel like im getting fat......er quit smoking and I gained weight, 511/ish and close to 200lbs.

I was thinking about starting to smoke. I was gonna start with the patch and work my way up to real smoking😄

I was joking-ish with the wife a days ago that we should start smoking again to see if we can lose the weight we gained from quitting 😄

I have never been "contacted" about loud music outside...
although I have performed at many outdoor events.

We have a lot of music festivals in our area...
and most are to benefit the township where the event is held...
so the cops aren't gonna shut down something that is helping their own department.
We do have noise ordinances, and most events end at the proper time.

In my city, it is from 10pm to 7am....
but it doesn't stop the jerks at the local self serve car wash from rattling my windows at 1am.

But as for weight....
that is the ONE piece of good news I got from my recent physical.

I lost another 10 pounds!

I was 210 about a year ago...
clocked in at 196 on September 4th...
and I am now at 186!

(my H.S. weight was 150....so not bad for 40 years)

Man, that's good. How are you managing to drop weight? Also, what's your height?

I'm 5'7", 196lbs (down 10 pounds from a year ago). 10 years ago, I'd ballooned up to 230. Kudos to you on your success.

I'm 5' 7" as well.
My secret?
Diabetes medication (Metformin)
It reduces how much sugar is absorbed in your system.
And it does that by increasing your trips to the bathroom. (#1 and #2)
You could call it "pooping your way to better health".
Had to go off of it, cause ya can't DJ a wedding if you may need to "run" at any second!

I have not met ONE person on it who hasn't had an issue with it.
But I am on something different now.
It's a bit more expensive, but doesn't seem to knaw at my gut.
But the whole thing has taught me to watch my sugar intake.
As for carbs, I married an Italian.
There is no way to avoid pasta and bread in MY house.
