Here’s an out-of-the-box option...

The LD Systems Maui 5... costs about $550 each. I saw a video review of the battery powered version by Brian Redd, and it looked and sounded pretty good. The battery version costs more, but might be something I might like to have in my arsenal.
I listened to the 5 Go last year at the DJ Expo .. it was surprisingly good at the price. I think they were around $750 at the show.

You must have really big houses .. or really poor hearing ..
Neither, but I'd rather be over capable than under-able.

A house party (again that is a subjective description that seems undefinable in this discussion) client doesn't deserve less quality sound than any other client.

I practical terms, a more intimate, smaller and less commercial environment is likely to be more suseptible to harsh sounding speakers due to the proxmity to the listener and the less cluttered ambient threshold.

There's a musician couple running a pair of Maui 11's in my area. They sound wonderful - I'm really surprised you don't here more about them - but twice the price of the 5's. I know initially they were supposed to be marketed here in the US under the "Fender" brand name, which I guess didn't work out.

I also plan to listen to these at the show next week ... Avante AS8 Portable Column PA System Pair - (https://www.pssl.com/Avante-AS8-Portable-Column-PA-System-Pair)

I was pretty amazed at the sound quality of the Avante speakers the last 2 years at the show .. my only real reservation is they are under the American Audio brand umbrella.

At around $1100 (sale price), they’re a little more than an EVOX-J8, but not so close in specs. PSSL carries the LD Systems Maui 5, so that’s probably where I’d get them... Free shipping. Still undecided???

That's $1100 for a pair..

Because I use them and know how they work, an l1 compact, $999 or an s1 pro...or 2,$599 each., Would be fine for any house party I've been at.

The Bose S1 is a good option... theoretically. I find it hard to believe it could sound as good as some of the larger options, but I’m open-minded about it. Guess I need to get a hold of a pair and try them out.

I’d be curious to know about the size of venue (sq. ft.) and crowd size with which you’ve successfully used the S1’s?

Which PRX do you have .. I have the 612 ..
PRX 512m I brought them because they were made of wood back in 2009. But I didn’t really start them widely until aroun 5 years ago. In 2009 I wasn’t really using powered speakers back then. I didn’t realize I had had them for that long .

The Bose S1 has 3 drivers similar in size to the EVOX 8 ones (2.25") and has a 6" woofer. The woofer limits how low it can go .. probably deficient below 150 HZ, but for background music and for portable use, they seem a good fit.

After watching some videos and doing a little reading, the Avante’s are one of my top options. Too bad there’s no place near me that carries them. I’d like to hear them for myself before I buy them. GC carries the Maui 5’s. But If I was gonna buy the Maui 5’s, the GO’s (battery powered) would make more sense, but they are almost twice the price. My TOP choice at the moment is the Bose S1. It’s only slightly over budget and GC has some I can listen too.

Just an FYI - Avante products are simply rebranded/otherbranded American Audio/ADJ stuff.

IMHO, that indicates it is equivalent to most low end dj audio gear. For clarification, in this context, "low end" would be slightly higher than Harbinger/Beringher.

I think making a judgement about a product based solely on the brand name is pretty... close-minded. Whatever speakers I buy will be used with an AMERICAN AUDIO VMS 4.1. If YOU want to consider it a “low end” controller, fine, but I used it exclusively my first three years DJing, and it is still a GREAT controller. It’s built MUCH better than my more expensive (by 3-4 times) Denon and Pioneer controllers. The mic channels are better than the Denon. It sounds just as good as the Pioneer. So the fact that the Avante AS8’s are part of the American Audio group is not a downside for me. They have a good warrant and a large company that supports them. All positives in my book, as long as they sound good.

Actually it is based on experience and information...which most consider mind expanding.

But you go buy your family a Yugo, you are so woke?

So, JBL is now a Samsung company ...
