I got a call about doing doing an event again for another committee. I was told I was needed to do the event in Paterson, NJ on September 14th. I had to present a contract. So I went to the meeting today with the contract. I was told to put the price in for the amount I was looking to be paid. No problem. I found out it is between me and another DJ. Had to put in a bid. Found out me and this other DJ put in the exact same bid. They have another meeting in exactly 2 weeks and that's when I will find out who they picked to do the event.
I just found that very interesting and I decided to not change my price for doing the event. Just keep it as it is and let the committee decide who they want to do the evnet. I wasn't going to undercut that DJ. Some would have done that trying to win the bid. I decided to say a prayer and see what happens. What I do know is what God has for you is for you. Nobody can take it away.
That reminds me of the time I was originally to be cut out from doing an event over $50. The chairperson decided to get someone else to do the event for $50 less then the price I charge. I had done a number of events in the past for this committee. So I felt highly disrespected. I didn't see why the person didn't call me to see if I would do the event for $50 less since I had worked for this committee for a number of years. The not so funny part is this. The event was on Saturday and I got a panic phone call from the chairperson seeing if I could come and do the event because the person who was supposed to do the event had equipment troubles and couldn't do the event. I agreed to do it for the same price to save the committee. I was certainly pissed but I decided to do the event regardless of how the chairperson treated me. I felt bad for the other DJ having equipment troubles. I couldn't understand why that DJ didn't have backup gear. Anyway the point is what God has for you is for you. Nobody can take away what God has planned for you.
As far as agreeing to do it for the same price I had a member who wasn't happy with me not asking for the extra $50. I didn't see it being a big deal. So I didn't want to make a big fuss. If it was $100 or more then I would have said something. One good news I found out is the event is to take place in the same location and the elevator is working. So who ever gets the job won't have to struggle going up 2 flights of stairs to get their equipment in the room where the dance is going to be. When I did it the first time the elevator wasn't working and had to struggle getting the gear up those 2 flights of stairs including the 2 Yorkville subs. If I do it again We will only bring one. For sure though you have to use at least one sub in a room that big.
