Just booked a party in this venue for August... i have a pretty good idea of where i would ideally set up... now ofcourse i will have to abide by the clients decision of where they want me... but i thought i would post some pics here and get your opinions of the optimum set up spot...

ps- they want moving heads (i will just mount them on tripods) and i may put some uplights down the wall with the windows..

First photo, tucked away in the left corner. How many guests? Looks like a nice, intimate space.

yeah that seems about the only practical spot...i need to double check that that isnt an emergency exit door adjacent to that corner...behind the stone wall...

they are expecting 100.... no dinner just standing cocktail turning into dance...

my other option would be center wall with guests on both sides of me... but im not a big fan of that idea

heres a picture of the place during remodeling...it shows a door there in the corner...just not sure if its an exit or not

actually looking closer...that might be an elevator shaft

i have no clue what those faux walls are for....not sure if those are bathrooms or what.... the space is newly open to the public...i think it may have been a high end apt at one point

If it is, maybe diagonal in the corner across from it (where the water heater or whatever the tank is). Then you could drop a speaker near the table and run a line down the wall and drop another in near the kitchen up against the wall. But, can't really tell how wide it is. Guessing 12-15' from wall to the elevator shaft, bathroom, whatever it is. If it is a bathroom, then somewhere else or you will have people constantly running by and will be dealing with any odors that they may leave behind......

yeah...im gonna go down and check it out soon and get a better feel for the width... im hoping its larger than it seems in the pics...

i spoke to the owner of the venue this morning and his description of the load in sounds pretty sucky.... loading zone across the street....into the main lobby...up an elevator...then move vehicle to a parking garage 2 blocks down...lol...i hate city gigs

certainly plenty of outlets on the brick wall...lol

gonna tour the venue with my client...which is ideal...i can hopefully get a better vibe about space and used doorways and influence the final decision

No way would I stick myself in the middle of everyone on this gig. 100 in that room is going to be tight and you'll have people banging into your table and tripping over your speakers. I feel for you on the load-in. If that is an elevator, that will at least limit some of the pain but it sounds like a real PITA location.

I'd set up in that corner, but I'd spread the speakers down the brick wall. There isn't any reason to keep all of your sound in that back corner in such a long room.

Keep yourself out of the way, but the lights and speakers and be more central.

i tend to agree.... not sure if youve ever seen the "live from the boiler room" series on youtube... but those djs are always surrounded by people and look miserable...lol... i had a club residency back around 95 in a club with that set up....people would grab my arm while i was mixing... sometimes knocking the tonearm off the record.... i hated every minute of it

im just not sure of my options....depending on what she has planned for the room

yeah...it should be quite easy with the abundance of outlets...
