I concur that Rick needs a serious 'tudajustment but from personal experience the NFL is no great customer.

The last time they were in NOLA, I rec'd a call for a replacement dj at a remote event, less than 2 days out and they were looking for volunteers to work in exchange for the "AWSOME EXPOSURE"...I still wasn't rude and simply, professionally & politely declined.

People die of exposure all the time ;)

It's funny how large organizations are like that they spend thousands and sometime millions on events and look for the little guys to work for exposure

I won't work for exposure, but I will certainly expose myself for the right amount of money! :)

How much do you charge to keep fully dressed ;) Likely you'll make more that way

I rent sound gear and find some odd requests, which usually leads to some discussion and explaining.

I get asked if I rent microphones, and I do. But when they come in to pick up I hand them a mic, just a mic, not wireless, just a mic. Of course always they want the mic to amplify their voice. And always determine they need a speaker or two along with an audio mixer, plus all the cables and connections.

Same thing happens when I get a call for a speaker. The customer is expecting the speaker to play music and amplify their announcements. Once again, it takes some explaining. Some people just need a small lesson in understanding what their intensions are.

A table, yeah this may have taken some clarification.

Think about what happens when her boss gets a $250 bill for a table. I’m going to end up in a big ole hassle. No thank you.

He's going to wonder why it was so cheap. Last time around, they paid at least $500-$600.

i honestly have zero doubt that this woman was told something like "turntables" and through a course of chinese whispers ...shes suddenly on the internet looking for dj tables

Maybe, maybe not... she did say that they already had built a facade. Either way, asking a few questions for clarification and helping the caller make an educated decision will make you a hero AND will likely make you some money. This woman is a local planner being asked to come up with some things that she may not get requests for every day... how great would it be her go-to person moving forward?

A facade in production terms is a bit different than the dj facades we are accustomed too... its probably a formica counter or truss system...heavily branded in vinyl banners or video panels... shes probably heard that term floated by the team and regurgitated it to Rick to seem in the know. If she was truly looking for a standard banquet table...id assume she'd have one on site or pursue a 100 different avenues first rather than call a dj... someone has tried to explain to her that they need a dj console...a set of "tables" ie turntables... and they most likely thought she understood...she heard "dj" ...she heard "tables"... and the rest is history...or Rickstory in this case...lol

Not happening. It was a time waster and I squashed it.

But how did you determine that without asking questions?
I mean....if you only asked ONE question....you could have known for sure.

I know your "instincts" for these things have been RIGHT on occasion....
but they've also been WRONG.

It's a moot point. This thread is also proving to be a time waster. I'm sorry I started it.

No worries. Here's the time-wasting thread score so far:
Mix: 65,462 Rick: 17

I generally like Ricks post however he does have the machoman characteristic of not being able to admit he might be wrong

When I'm wrong, I admit it. In this case, I called it correctly. I thought this thread would be a mildly amusing, "that's a bizarre request". Instead, I got a peanut gallery, trying to say this was a valid customer. It wasn't. I'm sorry I posted it. I'll have to re-think things more in the future.

No what you were thinking is more people would be on your side and it's the opposite.
