We've been working this prom for several years. It's about 120 miles from the house, but they've always been good to work with. This year's songlist had some smart-alecs but no biggie. The prom is held is a large warehouse area and it's usually 150-175 kids. The entire community comes out and they do their senior walk-out (I don't have to announce it) on one end of the building while we setup at the other end. We'll take over around 8pm.

This is the rare gig where I miss the LS801ps but the Alto subs do a respectable job. This year, I put my facade in the center, in front of a 12ft screen. Subs/K10s are on each side of the table and I have another pair of EV Live-X 12" about 15 feet outside (and back by the back wall). I really like the extra pair of tops and they help boost the coverage. I'm hanging a pair of Martin Acrobats on each outer top and have my main lights (2 movers with colorstrip mini on each mini t-bar) on the outer edge of the screen. We have the entire dancing area flanked by my 9X18 uplights and Slimpar56 cans on the other end of the building (boy, what a difference between can brightness). We have a ton of wallspace to cover, so my son came up with the idea of doing a 45 degree angle on the cans along the brick walls. I have about 25-30 cans total and they sure do cover a lot more area by shooting an angle. Here's a shot of my setup (without dance lights being on of course (they're doing senior walk-out now.

I don't recall the screen being behind you in this venue last year. What do you show on it? And do you not block it when its behind you?

This is our Live-Pics setup. We take photos and run texts that the guests send in (if they're clean). I've pretty well dropped this from our standard packages (weddings) but we've always done it for this prom. I debated about blocking but just like being centered with the room. I think, sound-wise, this setup worked better than anything we've done before and it puts the subs right up against the main part of the dance floor. Here's another room shot, later in the night.

Here's a full gallery from the Live-Pics. Our son, Matt, shot them. He's also 2nd shooter on our wedding gigs.

BTW, the sponsor told me they're going to have to move next year. This venue is doing something else with the room. They're going to be in a bit of a pickle. This entire community (probably 400-500 parents) shows up for the senior walk-out. It's going to be hard to find a place big enough that won't be an arm and a leg. She said the County has been letting them have this room for $500 for Friday/Saturday.

Your mini t-bars are starting to grow on me. Two 4 footers are sometimes more than needed .
I like the two bar look spread.

Thank you, I'm really liking them more and more. The colorstrip-minis are just the perfect amount of floor light and visual and those Chauvet Intimidator 255 movers fit just perfectly underneath. One thing, I did have a slight hiccup on the wireless DMX. During setup/testing, the system lost connection a couple of times. I rebooted the tablet twice and it went back to working and no problems throughout the rest of the night. I never did figure out what happened. So far, I'm loving this lighting setup. I have each rack in its own box. Just pull it out, stick it on a crank, one power line and you're in business.

I find it interesting how many other areas have proms starting in Early April. Here in Maryland, I had never heard of proms occuring in April. All of them seem to start first weekend in May and continue though last weekend in May with maybe a handful of them occuring first weekend in June right before school ends.

That big room was CHEAP at $500 for the school.

She said they normally charge $2500, which is also cheap for that large of a room. She said next year they're taking in half of it to add to their Veteran's museum. Half of it will still be an event center. As for proms down here, they're all done by the middle of April. Some are even bumping up into March.

i dig that venue! you gotta mirror that white mover tho....its killing us poor ocd guys...lol...especially if you box them and puttem up already mounted...u could fix it once and never think about it again... lol

Hey Rick, I notice that the screen is close to the wall. Where are you projecting from? Front of screen, short-throw projection on the ground?
