Currently I have Sony MDR-7506 and Pioneer HDJ-2000 headphones.

I'm willing to sacrifice sound quality for improved noise isolation - anyone have any experience with the beyerdynamic DT 770 M, or other headphones that are supposedly good at isolating noise?

Noise isolation as in "sealed cup" (like my Sennheiser HD280PRO) or "active cancellation" (like my 2 pairs of Bose) ??

Whatever works the best. It's for DJ'ing - I'm looking to better block out the sound from my mains.

I thought "active cancellation" was for a steady background noise (like the sound inside an airplane) and didn't work so good on music? However, like I said, whatever works the best.

The HDJ-2000s have really good isolation on them... where are you mains positioned in your set up if they aren't blocking enough sound?

I was actually using the Sony's which have "Wicked Cushions" on them. A quick test on them at home here today and it seems like the Sony and Pioneer isolation is very close.

About 8' either side of me, and about 4' to my front. 12" tops over 15" subs. This is my usual setup in this venue, but I had a rather lively crowd this Saturday, was really cranking the system, and I had to turn the headphone level so high I'm concerned with hurting my ears. I do not play a pre-arranged playlist. It's Latin music and I can't read Spanish, so it's really important I can easily pick and preview the next song by ear. Beat matching is not the problem.

Do you think I need to be further back?

The Sennheiser HD280PRO is pretty good with isolation as it encompasses the ear fairly completely. The Bose also do a good job, but as you said, work better with consistent noise. I've never tried them while playing music AND trying to listen to "other" music.

It's hard for me to say... I use headphones similar to yours and don't seem to have an issue, even in some very loud environments. But it sounds like you're doing more listening than I am. I know my library well enough that I'm not really listening to music, just cueing it. And I'm also pretty comfortable running my headphones loud enough to compete with whatever is going on around me.

If you really need isolation... you might consider getting fitted for some In Ear Monitors that will really drown out noise around you.
