So one of my pairs of On Stage Speaker Stands have become totally worn out. I could have purchased new parts to replace the malfunctioning parts from on stage, but I figure why do that when speaker stands are so cheap these days. That pair of On Stage Stands I purchased way back in like 2005 so I got close to 14 years out of them

I went online and found these Rockville Stands. I really liked the locking mechanism on these, so i figure I would buy them. Amazon had them shipped to me in about 36 hours.

Here is the pic...They came already packaged in a carry bag. For $57.95 + tax, I really like these stands. The parts they used seem beefier than the plastic parts on the On Stage Stands. They go to 79 inches high which is perfect for me. They also have a "air assisted lowering" mechanism. Which worked very well on my 18 lb American Audio speaker just trying it out at home. ...I am not sure how well that air assist would do on a very heavy speaker, but most newer speakers are under 55 lbs or so these days anyway. Oh they also came with some free "thick" velcro ties to use as well. Pretty cool of Rockville to throw those in the bag! It looks like 2 pairs of ties, and they are thicker than typical ties I purchase as well!

...I have no idea why ODJT is flipping my photos when I up load them!

Anywhere, here is the link for anyone who needs to stands. I recommend trying these out. They are as light as the On Stage Stands are as well, but the carry bag is thin, so the stands in this carry bag is real light.

My other question. I now have 8 speaker stands. What should I do with the old pair of stands? Should I bother trying to sell them, or better off turning them in for recycle? They are aluminum. Maybe I get $2 to $4 paid out on the recycling end, LOL.

i have a pair of the rockville air lift stands....love them... speakers raise like a feather

If you plan on getting rid of them anyway just get rid of them it wouldn't be worth the headache to sell them for a couple of busks they don't have much value

Nice stands, I need to replace the stands I have, I dont think they are rated to hold my Yammy's,( I got them before the yammys)

Ricky, is the piece that the legs attach to metal or plastic?

After an initial set of On-Stage, all my tripods are Ultimate ... far better quality and minimum cost difference.

I have four Ultimate speaker stands around here somewhere. Got no speakers to mount on them anymore. I should probably sell them, but there’s not much of a market for them. I’ll hold on to them, I guess. I might buy a couple of pole mounted speakers someday.[emoji4]

I still have my pair of JBLs I use for outdoor stuff and small events where I need to manage the horizontal distribution (the horn contains things better) and 2 of the Ultimates are the taller size, so they're mostly used for lighting.

Ultimate stands always proved substantially more reliable and beneficial.

On-Stage stuff just had more wonkiness and parts failures and after a second failure I never returned to on-stage stands.

But I have not used the old chicken feet set-up in years...I've grown to truly dislike the tri-pod look even and especially when they are emphasized with those horrible covers and then lit up...yuck.

I agree on the "look" .. I use the tripods when I don't have a choice (uneven surface, wet conditions). I bought one of these and might get another as they look cleaner ..

K&M stands are the only brand I will buy speaker lighting even mic stands
Great too .. I had a pair of their sub poles with the adjustable collets.

My sub poles are the On Stage Brand, no complaints about them , they do what they supposed to do, but I am sure they are much better sub poles on the market I could use.

Ricky, is the piece that the legs attach to metal or plastic?

Yes, not only is the connector piece that holds the legs together metal. They even capped the bottom off so that air does not rust out, or loosen the screws.

If you click on the link to Amazon. There is a video at the bottom of the pictures. Click on that and it will show you the bottom piece.

I also like the black finish on these stands. It's like a darker/thicker coat of black paint compared to the On Stage stands.

Thank you Ricky! I did not check out the video, but I am going to give it watch now.

I hope you have better than luck with the Rockville stands than I did. I purchased a set about 5 years ago and after 7 months got rid of them completely. Hopefully they have improved their product during that time. Rockville Stands - (https://ourdjtalk.com/threads/rockville-stands.43059/)

Sorry to hear that Ron.... I purchased mine about 9 months ago and so far they are doing fine... When i bought them (set) they only sent one... it was the new version with a button instead of a pull pen... i contacted them and they sent me a second one as ordered....except bummer...it was the version with the pull pen... and they actually have different height increments .....which is annoying... but i never tried to exchange it...since i needed it immediately for gigs

Has anyone tried the Frankenstands? Ive heard a lot about them being great air lift stands

a;uminum or steel?
the text at amazon says 'aluminum steel composite'...chinese speak for who knows, right?

I have some old air alum stands that are WAY lighter than the on stage stands I use for backup/4 speaker gigs. I so much prefer carrying the old alum beat up jobs (don't recall brand..20 some years old, out of business when I googled them)

To be honest: For the $60 or so with tax that I spent on these stands. They came with a carry bag. It's a cheap carry bag that is thin, but it WORKS. It's the lightest stands/bag combo I have had before. That is because the on Stage Stands bags are very thick, and padded so they weigh more.

In the past I had a very old paid or on stage stands I purchased back in like 2000. Those lasted me about 9 years. I think I paid like $120 for the pair back then (much more expensive for stands back then). The 2nd pair of stands I ever purchased were bought in 2005. That is the pair I am going to get rid of soon, and these rockville stands replaced. ...I got 14 years out of that pair before they became too worn down to continue using. I think I paid maybe $90 or so on that pair.

My 3rd set of on stage stands was purchased in 2009 to replace the 1st set. So that set is going on 10 years old now, and they still work fine. That par was probably about $90 or less.

I have purchased 3 on stage stands carry bags over the years. Price on bags ranged from $21.95 to $34.95.

This set was roughly $60 with tax, and came with the carry bag. ...Honestly, If I get 1 year out of the bag, I will consider that getting my money's worth! ...If the stands last me more than 2 years, I will be happy considering the price I paid. ....I really do think they are better built than the on stage stands are though. I guess time will tell, but the parts seem more durable to me than the plastic parts on the on stange stands.

I also have a single Pro Line series basic metal stand from Guitar Center. ...It's the heaviest stand I own. I bought it because I needed a stand to mount the ADJ Starburst light on. I also use it from time to time for a ceremony or cocktail hour ...I have used it maybe 20 times in 3 years, and it still looks and works like new. I think I paid $39.99+ tax for it.

I also have a air assisted on stage stand with TV mounting bracket that I use for mounting a TV for karaoke. That is still new. Only been used once. That cost me $70.

Overall, stands are inexpensive. ...If the Rockville ones last 3 or more years, I will consider it totally worth the money. That is $20/yr with a bag included. Can't beat that!

I'm not out setting up for gigs 2-3 times a week either these days. The stands probably won't get used on more than 50 gigs a year, and probably less than that. In 3 years/150 gigs or less in that time. For $60....I would say totally worth the investment. And if these Rockville stands end up lasting 9 or 10 years...That would be fantastic!
