Is anybody here using a touch screen PC to DJ with?

My partner bought a Dell touchscreen PC and it's nice. He bought this saying he wanted to eliminate using a controller. It's nice. I tried it out but it's not for me at all. I need to feel the controls directly and not on a touchscreen PC. Anybody using one of these and what are your thoughts? He's using VDJ 8 with it.

My opinion... the touch screens just aren't there yet. First of all, the sound cards are not adequate to be used in lieu of a controller, so you'd still need some kind of external sound card. But more importantly, the combination of touch screen computer and the software interface is too slow and imprecise to do any rapid movements like you often do when mixing. Besides having no tactile feel, trying to use an effects knob without being able to twist it is cumbersome at best. You can work around the single microphone input (of a computer) issue, and I suppose there's a way to use your headphones to listen to one virtual deck while playing from another... never tried it on a touch screen. I seriously considered using a touch screen when I redid my Small System last Summer, but decided to wait a couple of years to see if they improve. That, and there's no touch screen interface for Traktor.[emoji4]

My laptops are touch screen. I'll use it here and there, but they don't replace anything at this point.

iPads, which have become a solid back up, are all touch screen

I have touch screen laptops. I currently use the Multi Touch interface on Virtual DJ on one of my laptops, and like using it.

It would certainly feel better on a desk top touch screen 27 inch though. ...I want to do that, but not happening this year. Maybe next year. Also, I want to make sure there is a padded carry bag to transport one of these in as well.

Glad it works for you.[emoji4] I don't use VDJ, so touch is not an option for me at this point... But if I was gonna do it (and use a desktop monitor), I'd go big or go home.[emoji1] 27" is NOT big enough to make a statement. You want something at least as big as a Pioneer DDJ-SZ, which is about 34 inches wide. The smallest I would do is a 32 inch monitor.[emoji4]

My partner bought a Dell touchscreen PC and is using VDJ. He bought a luggage bag to transport it in that is just big enough for it to fit in. Like I said before, I tried it but couldn't mix worth a s*** on the touchscreen. Not for me. I will see how he does with it at an event we have to do on the 28th. It's a retirement celebration in Linden, NJ.
