64 bit Serato DJ Pro was released today. Enough of use it that IMHO it should have it's own thread here, and now it does.

I've just installed it on two Windows 7 laptops. Even though it installs to a completely different directory, it still overwrites your older 32 bit version. If you don't want it to do that, you have to rename your earlier install - Installing multiple versions of Serato DJ

My first surprise is my ancient, but loved, Vestax Typhoon's still work. Vestax never wrote 64 bit ASIO drivers for the Typhoon, it looks like it is still bypassing Windows Audio, and yet somehow it plays! Sounds real good too!!

Both of my laptops are 17", and the screen layout looks much better - no more dead space regardless of waveform view. All preferences, Crates, Library, etc., look unchanged.

There is now an offline "two player" mode (no controller hooked up) which includes a crossfader - you can actually DJ with it using the headphone jack on your laptop! You obviously can not audibly Cue songs, or preview songs, at the same time if you do this. Nonetheless, it works, and for those of you who have never tried Serato, this is a free download, you can use it this way, and you can see first hand what all the hoopla is about.

There's a few other things, but I'd like to see what others think.

Can you give us some more feedback after using it at an event. I am very very hesitant to upgrade when a major version is released until I know others have no issues. I dont care for many of the features other than stability and display.
Sure. That will probably be this coming weekend (plus I'll be running it all week here at home), but remember, I'm on Windows 7 - your mileage will be different if you're running a Mac.

The real surprise with this is that there never was a Public Beta, like all the previous versions, and except for 64 bit, there actually aren't any new bells and whistles.

I normally wait too... but I upgraded already. I really like that you can run two tracks in practice mode.

I do most of my organizing and prep work sitting on my couch without gear attached. My studio is great for practice but I don't always want to go up there unless I'm recording or actually putting something on my turntables.

I'll give it a test this week, and will have it in a club environment on Friday night.

I haven't downloaded it yet ( I will tonight) - but I have been doing the multi install for a long time so this way I can revert to the one that works quickly if needed.

"Performance Pad Cue Layout" and "HI-Res Screen Display" have to be manually selected in configuration settings.
My laptop has Intel Core i5 plus Nvidia Geforce graphics - very low cpu usage.
Running great so far!!

Because the Vestax Typhoon worked, I'm hoping my VCI-300 will work with it (in Mac and Windows).

Like I said, I was amazed that my Vestax Typhoon worked with this release. I asked the Serato Team a direct question about this. Their answer -
"All the audio decoders in the 64 bit version of DJ Pro and Lite are 64 bit."

Somebody at Serato has been real busy!!!

Well, not REAL busy, since everyone else had 64 bit years ago ... :)

Well, not everyone. There's still alot of 32 bit stuff out there.
Maybe outside the mainstream. I wouldn't trust a manufacturer today who only had 32 bit, since 64 bit came out, what, a decade plus ago?

I hear ya, but I was referring more to the soundcard drivers. Vestax isn't even in business, and they only wrote a 32 bit ASIO driver for their Typhoon. I actually thought the 64 bit version of Serato Pro wouldn't support it. I was pleasantly surprised to find otherwise.

I use Vestax's 32 bit ASIO driver with the 32 bit version of Cross DJ 3.4.3 - it (obviously) doesn't work with the 64 bit version of Cross DJ. So, either Serato DJ Pro is using Magic, Wasapi, Direct Sound, etc., or they themselves wrote a 64 bit driver for the Typhoon in Serato DJ Pro - and it looks like it was the latter. Impressive, but also logical, considering they probably had to do the same thing for the Rane SL2/SL3/SL4 to keep the DVS fan boys happy.

....but you are right, they progress slowly - at this rate they will probably implement a "song preview" within 10 years as well!!!

MS still writes 32 bit apps.
I think the difference is between writing them "in addition to 64 bit apps" .. and writing them solely.

When you control the OS, I guess it's pretty easy to make what you want for it. As an applications only vendor, up until 2016, MS didn't have a 64 bit version of Office for Mac. Mac has had 64 bit architecture since 2007.

'Although Apple has long urged developers to release 64-bit versions of applications, Microsoft has been a holdout.'

Microsoft held out .. or Apple held back ...? :)
