I hope this thread turns into a fun thread. I was at a doctor's office getting Acupuncture last Wednesday when I saw over the coat rack a small BSR Mcdonald speaker. I hadn't heard of them in I guess over 20 years. I remember they made some great speakers back in the day.

I also remember Soundcraftman amps from back in the day as well. If you owned one of those you were a top of the line DJ as they were VERY expensive. Even their cheapest model cost a whole lot! They were well worth the money if you could afford to buy one. Any other brands you can think of from back in the day that were top sellers that are no longer made?

Many of the old names died out: Garrard, Carver (though Bob Carver still sells under his name), BIC Venturi, AR, Advent, Sansui, Aiwa, Fisher, Ohm

Many were resurrected, reborn, or have a different focus: Dual, Advent, Marantz, Nakamichi, Thorens, Kenwood, Sanyo, Hafler

Some still exist, though many don't notice: Harman Kardon

If you wanna see old skool electronics....
you should see the Performance Room here at the radio station.
(we use old audio stuff as a backdrop for artists performing)
Some of it is close to 100 years old.

When I was growing up (pre DJ years)...it was all Radio Shack / Realistic.
Especially those FM Converters for cars with AM radios.
(the deluxe models had a 40-watt booster)

I saw in that picture a reel to reel. I had one when I first became a DJ. Never used it. I just had it. I wonder how much one would be worth today. They used to have one in Club Zanzabar that they played tracks from.

Are crate amps still around?

They are rare and valuable to collectors and audiophiles.
But not in the general public.
The TAPE that is used in R2R's is known to disintegrate, kinda like movie film..
so having a machine to play it on isn't a big concern.

I seen some online selling for well over 2k. I wonder how much that same unit cost back in the day? I forgot how I even got the one I had.

That must be the standard radio station old gear storage shelving we have the same in our building lol. They threw most of the old stuff out now though

Who else thought the answer was going to be "a paycheck"?;)

I was going to ask if he lost weight ;)

I learned something new. I never knew DBX made speakers.

Yep... You can see some of them on eBay, but none like mine. I bought a dBx surround sound system that came with 5 speakers and a subwoofer. It was supposed to be a compact system to compete with the Bose Acoustimass system, and it did. They sound really good. They're in my bedroom, and still used every day.[emoji4]
