The new Galaxy 8 and 8+ are out or coming out. I was in Best Buy and asked how much for the Galaxy 8. I was told that phone cost $849. I thought to myself they have got to be out of their Fing minds! The one I have now cost almost $600 and I never thought I would pay that much for a phone. I got 3 more payments and the phone will be paid off. I can't tell you on here if I pay that much for a phone I need it to do to me because I would be banned for life. That's crazy to me but I know there are some crazy people in the world that must have the latest whatever.

I've paid $0 for any phone I've ever had.....You always pay in the long run though with contracts

AT&T doesn't have free phones any more. I remember you used to be able to get a free phone when either you became a new member or existing member agreeing to a 2 year plan.

Cellphones are crazy expensive. I guess I'll bite the bullet and buy a new one pretty soon, but it's not something I'm excited about. The wife has an iPhone 4S and can't run the latest iOS (built in obsolescence), so some of her apps don't run right anymore. Not sure I'll get her an iPhone though. She's not too tech savvy though and learning a new phone might be tough. Whatever she gets, it needs to be super simple. She really loved her old flip phone.[emoji1] I finally got her to switch to the iPhone when AT&T stopped supporting and it constantly dropped calls. She loves that she can make hands free calls in her car (Bluetooth connection), but she forgets that the iPhone is really making the calls.[emoji1]$800+ for a phone is just craziness though![emoji1]

Again they were never really free before either. They do have zero dollar down OAC plans but do the numbers before you sign a lot of times you are paying more than it's worth retail other times you can do OK

If it was the 8 you are thinking about it's $749 at ATT and it's the same if you take the payment plan

My wife still has a flip phone it's working good so far. She rarely uses it. I just looked at my phone company usage app she has a whole minute logged so far this month and my month is up on the 6th. She has an android tablet but won't upgrade to an android phone because she doesn't want the complication :dontknow: It's Ok with me the phone is half of what I pay for the kids phones :)

Truth be told, there's a ton of technology packed into today's phones. Sure, there's a profit margin built into the price as well, but you're getting processing power that's on par with a decent laptop computer, stuffed into a small form factor that can run all day and fits in your pocket. Oh, and you can use it as a phone, too. $849 isn't a ridiculous price when you take a look at what you're getting, and as a bonus, you'll never buy another point-and-shoot camera in your lifetime.

Upgrade her to an iPhone SE. It's a great phone with a lower price point than the iPhone-6 and -7 models.

lower price point it still ridiculous IMO.

I got the cheapest smart phone ATT offered - $179. Works for me. Perfect? At times it's slower than I'd like.
My son has an iphone 6s I think it is, $749. Oh, plus insurance, and $99 for a repair...

And people buy these phones without blinking..yet ask them to spend it on DJ for their wedding...

I've got an iPhone 7 that was $749. But given the amount of time I use it, it's not a bad spend. I can run my entire business from anywhere on my phone. I don't need out of office notices because my office is wherever I am at the moment. I've booked gigs from the chair lift on a ski slope before. And, I'm willing to pay for that convenience.

For Christmas, my family got me a Motorola Moto G4 Plus.
It is on nearly every top ten list, not because it has the latest, hottest features.
But because it is considered one of the best feature-to-price ratio.
Usually about $200.

I don't have a regular point and shoot camera. I certainly wouldn't pay that much for a phone because it takes great pictures. You can get a decent DSLR which would work good enough for most people and a cheaper phone than that.

You might be better off with the phone that takes good pics we've seen the results when you use a DSLR

I will say you're probably right. I don't give a damn. I still wouldn't pay $749 for a cell phone. I could have gotten one yesterday paid for over time. Once I found out the price hell to the NO!

Maybe not, but you'd easily blow $200-500 on stupid things that don't matter. Hotspot, pawn shop speakers, EFX-500 to replace the one you damaged, Chauvet Vue 4 to replace the Vue 2 you damaged... I kid you not, you've mentioned the word "bought" 193 times on ODJT... that's 8 pages of search results.

I bet if you had saved some money, the $749 price tag on a phone wouldn't have become a ridiculous discussion called "Would you pay this much for a cellphone?".

If you already have a $600 phone... you're talking about $10.41 more per month on a 24 month payment plan (which is pretty standard). Or, put another way, it should be a fraction of a single gig's pay.

Don't forget, he's still on the hook for that $1.07 tablet that he bought with a 2-year data plan commitment. The cell phone providers love customers like him.

I got the EFX 500 for $99.99 with free shipping and the Vue 4 for under $70. So no big deal to me. I said it once and I'll say it again. I would never pay that much for a cellphone even if I had the money to spend. Oh my bad. I could get it if I paid about $53 to start and the rest paid in monthly payments till it got paid for.

The only way I would spend that much for a cellphone is if I hit the Powerball.

I can do the same as you if I wanted to and mine didn't cost me $749. So if you didn't have that phone you couldn't do everything you wanted to do with your business?
