I have sold a couple hundred DMX books over the past 10 years. Didn't get rich... but paid for printing and postage. The ultimate goal is to advance the knowledge, and get more professional.

Got me to thinking... how about a forum here to teach everyone who's interested.

I'd like to learn more ultimately I'd like manufactures make the control interface much simpler, I don't have time to be programming light shows and switching scenes at a gig

This WILL HAPPEN, and the need to know a lot about DMX, and spend time programming light shows won't be needed...at least for Mobile DJs. I see Color LCD Screens being put on the back of all lights 10 years from now. Tons of built in light shows. Wireless Linking between lights will be a featured integrated into effect lighting. Everything via remote or a very easy to use app on the tablet or smart phone. ...They will probably integrate being able to use Siri with the app so you won't have to type. Just tell the app what you want the lights to do LOL.

It will be much simpler.

I would love to learn more about dmx.

It may make sense to start with a sticky and then move to a separate forum if the traffic is there and not thread is no longer making sense

Or a sub forum in lighting on dmx

I'm just recalling a group of people asking for a multiop forum, then it got abandoned.

We have a lighting forum would a stuck thread work?

+1 We'd be happy to stick a thread or create a thread prefix for the lighting forum (so that only threads with the DMX prefix can be viewed easily)

We have a couple of dead forums around hanging around ODJT. I've mostly left them because they've been there a while. Lately, I've been thinking about converting those forums' threads into threads with a prefix and moving them to a more heavily trafficked forum.

I would personally love a DMX (lighting that is) forum. I am currently using MyDMX2.0 and learn something new every day about it. Meanwhile I know there is so much still to learn about it AND the lights it can control.

I've been using freestyler for a few years and I enjoy programming chases etc. It seems that many DJs don't want to take the time to do that and just set their lights on sound active.

I just got a MyDMX2.0 as well... haven't even had a chance to take it out of the box. I'm looking forward to making my light show a little more interesting.[emoji4]

It takes time to learn, but I'm getting the hang of it. There are quite a few youtube videos that I have learned so much from.

I used to teach a class at Mobile Beat... Usually about 3 hours in... I started seeing the "light bulbs" going on.

DMX is a different sort of language that computers understand. It involves "packets" of zeros and ones traveling down a cable... that's all it is!

I'd be happy to start the discussion with a forum. I did a series of lessons in another forum, and got SOME interest, but it fizzled. I think most folks who don't know programming DMX are afraid of it. And, I suspect there are folks here who know more than I do... but I'm the one offering.

I'll be happy to teach it if there is enough interest. Heck... I could post my book in daily doses, if that would work. It is a step into the future. "Sound Active" is NOT professional.
