Okay boys/girls, just got finished downloading and trying out the trial edition of Davor's Visikord.com whatever you call it thingy. At first glance, it's majorly cool. Demo mode starts putting random graphic on the screen and you see the person's outline with 1 red and 1 blue dot up top. You hit the red one and it fires your "weapon" (i.e. flashes the screen at your hand). Hit the blue and it allows you to change your weapon to some other random graphic. I've already emailed him for the full license and planning to use this on our mitzvah this coming Sunday night with a 10 foot, rear-project video screen. This should hopefully work well as the screen will be on a stage and the kids can just walk up in front and start using the sensor. Check it out.

Sounds cool.

Thank you for the purchase and for the post Rick. If you get a chance I'd definitely recommend connecting your music source to the Visikord laptop via audio cable (so the software can do beat detection) and letting the kids play the Starfall beat game.

Cheers,
Davor

Well 13 years old can't dance but I'll try to get some video footage from my event on Sunday. I'm intending to use a 10' screen up on a 4' stage and have the kids in the floor. Might be a trainwreck but I think it'll work.

Well it's true Mike it actually isn't made for people who are great dancers -- they don't need software. :) It's more for people who just like to move to music, and for kids. (Although dancers good in latin dances usually make a good show with it.) By the way we do have a 21-day money back guarantee.

Rick, as a suggestion, you may want to mark with tape a spot on the floor at about 4-5 ft from Kinect as the best place to stand. Also you may want to reduce the "arm span" setting in the GUI panel, the default setting is for adults. When this value is smaller (roughly equal to their average height) they'll be able to make bigger "hand fire" effects. Just highlight the option and use the left arrow key to lower the value.

(the arm span setting is moving to the Main panel in the next release to be more easily accessible).
Thanks

Guys, I'm at the mitzvah now and this little kinect thing absolutely rocks! The kids are eating it up. Great visuals and they can figure it out without assistance.

Rick,
perhaps this wasn't the gig to really supply the answer...
but did you see this as something that might take people away from the dance floor?
It sure seems to take their attention away!

My impression, it seemed to compliment the dance floor. Those who wanted to dance, danced. It was mostly the smaller kids who were in front of the screen, with the occasion adult who might spend a minute or two then move on. I spoke to a number of adults, including the clients and every single one of them were raving about how cool that screen was. It was a bit comical during the slideshow presentation (they normally do a memories slideshow of the mitzvah boy/girl) because there were always like 2-3 little boys that were ignoring the slideshow and playing with the kinect screen. My DJ friend, who was my contractor on this one, kept trying to run them off but to no avail. By the way, my initial impression, this is not going to have as much impact if you run it on a 50"=60" TV. You've gotta have that 8'-10' screen to make it have real "Wow!" appeal in a larger room.

Thanks for the review and for the great pic Rick! Happy to hear the kids liked it. Did you have a chance to turn on beat detection for the games and for pulsing in freestyle mode?

Nope. To be honest, I didn't fool with it. Turned the unit on, put it into performance mode, played with it a few minutes then let the kiddos figure it out. I had a million other things to do. Your software worked flawlessly all night long and the kids loved it. Even had some adults coming by to try their hand at it. Lots of flashes and bright graphics. Very good product.

Hi Steven, no Xbox is not needed -- just the Kinect and the laptop (running Windows 7 or 8). The Kinect plugs in to the PC's USB port. There are lot of used Kinects available, in GameStop or on Amazon they sell for around $25. If the Kinect doesn't come with power/USB adapter (many used ones don't), then you need the adapter too ($8 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Power-Supply-Cable-Kinect-Xbox-360/dp/B004S7GA46/ref=sr_1_1). New Kinect is around $80 and comes with the adapter.

Of additional gear, we recommend having an active USB extender handy ($14 for 30ft at http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Mete...8&qid=1409951207&sr=1-6&keywords=usb+extender) for the Kinect if you want to have your computer farther from the screen.
