School wants to" subcontract" me? Not sure I like it.

The difference is that with a multi-op, you agree to work for them. From what I'm reading, the school is trying to make money from you without your knowledge or consent. When you work thru someone else you have to follow their rules & requests even if it conflicts with the guest of honor's...

If I had it all to do over again...

Maybe, just maybe, as the first generation of full time DJs start reaching retirement age, we are discovering that being a mobile DJ is not a long term career path. Just throwing that out there to see where it goes

    Yea, Softjock, more drama

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, you know what they say- poop happens.

If I had it all to do over again...

Like some of the others here, when I started DJing in the early '70s there was not a support group of older wiser DJs to give me advice. The only time another DJ wanted to meet with you was to either steal your 'schtick' or steal your clients- it was a very hostile environment down here...

I'm So Ready To Give Up - I'm Going To Have A Heart Attack

You beat me to it, there's no way a cordless mic can create a shock like that. My guess is that it's the power strip Is it one of those inexpensive plastic ones? They can't handle any amounts of power, check to see if it's starting to melt on the inside. I agree with a houstondj that a power...

    Snow machine

Not sure where the foam and bubbles came into the conversation, I was just asking about snow machines. I've done foam parties & there's definitely a lot of room there for liability. I might be wrong, but think the normal DJ insurance doesn't cover foam parties and inflatables. I was talking...

    Snow machine

A buddy of mine is contemplating purchasing a snow machine for his shows. Any useful tips from people who use them on which brands are good and which brands to stay away from would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bob www.TampaLaserShows.com

Really thinking about packing it all in...

I know what you're saying, I am thinking the same thing and am already working towards a different source of income (www.TampaLaserShows.com). In my case it's not because I'm burned out; I still love weddings, and DJing in general, but the phone just isn't ringing. In today's society...

Idol Singer Get Surprise of a Lifetime...

The kid does have a good voice. I think he has a huge career in front of him and might wind up becoming AI's biggest superstar as long as he keeps his nose clean (figuratively and literally). Another thing he is doing is introducing a mainly pop-orientated culture to country music. BTW- I tried...

    Hyper Audio Visual

26 replies and no one has heard of them. That tells me a lot about the company

    Hyper Audio Visual

They're based out of San Diego, Calif; and had a booth in the MBLV expo hall a couple of months ago. Has anyone heard of them, either good or bad? I want to order a couple of lights from them and my gut feeling is to be cautious.

    recording audio clips

For those that obtain audio clips before an event for insertion into their event, what device do you use to get the audio. Do they come to your studio; do you use a small pocket recorder; do you do it over the phone? Example- getting audio from a bride to use during the father/daughter dance

    Lookng for a Martin Acrobat

Acrobats are probably one of the best all-around lights Martin ever came up with. I have 4. Who's the knucklehead @ Martin that decided to discontinue them?

    Chuck the DJ

We need to see Ken do a hula dance in a hula skirt before this can be confirmed
