For me... i am excited for any song that infuses a bit of nostalgia with the unbridled excitement of a certified "floor filler" ... its the perfect combo...and for some this may be just that kinda song... for me...at a point...it becomes a bit "forced formulaic" .... and i truly believe that a song from the 80's ...that is doing well on its own... has another cover in the charts...and is tip toeing around a dead horse beating, full ruination of a really good classic song .... is the wrong well to tap...

The 80s has some amazing untapped gems that could be brought back with ease...that have the synth driven...edm forefather... excitement and feel that modern producers would feel a kinship with... which makes this one just seem lazy to me... really lazy... especially with big studio money paying for samples...

just my personal thoughts...

Ehhh ... a more danceable version than Weezer's, but ...

Without the rip-off of Top 40 hooks no one would bother to suffer through the self-absorbed diatribes that are Pitbulls rap.

Compare Pitbull with Will Smith:
Smith's rap while also over layred on Top 40 Classics always had an imaginative context even if self promoting. Juts 3 minutes of Pitbull and I'm ready to move on to Mr. 306

Yea, I do like the weezer version, I been playing the weezer version at my shows for the last 4 or 5 months.

I remember the super friends from the 70’s and aqua man was not a tough guy! He talked to dolphins, that’s kinda lame!

Now this guy looks like he could slap Superman around!

He hasn't had a Top 10 hit in the USA in five years... "Time Of Our Lives" was the last one and it hit #9. "Fun" featuring Chris Brown got to #40 in 2015. "Ocean To Ocean" is his 15th single release since "Fun"... the only slightly memorable track of the 14 singles released in between was "Greenlight", and that only got to #95.

To say that anyone's suffering through Pitbull's raps is a stretch at this point. His formula is stale. He's an energetic performer, but so was Ricky Martin at one time. Suffice it to say that I doubt this song will do anything, especially where Weezer's cover of Africa did so well. No programmer is going to listen to this and say "hey, we need ANOTHER Africa song in the rotation right now".

I still play at least 1 Pitbull song at 80% or more of my events though.

Timber with Kesha
Fireball with John Ryan
Time of our lives
Give me Everything
Hotel Room Service
Don't Stop the Party
Feel This Moment

International Love to a much lower extent

...There are not many other artists who have as many songs as he does in routine rotation at dance parties and weddings across the USA over the past 7 years.

Bruno Mars is one. Michael Jackson is another. Rihanna maybe?

Hell, if I go back to prior to 2009, I remember his old school stuff getting a lot of routine play. Culo, Toma, The Anthem with Lil Jon.

Beyonce, Calvin Harris, Taylor Swift, Gaga. Timberlake, Ed Sheeran?

Beyonce .....Not really big dance music. Outside of Crazy in Love during open dancing at some weddings, and Single Ladies for bouquet toss, I can't think of anything else she has that was being requested in 2018.

IMO her stuff isn't THAT srong for dancing.

Taylor Swift. ....She has had a lot of top radio hits, but most of her stuff are emotional that girls relate to. ....In terms of strong dance songs...Only Shake It Off has had a lot of staying power. Bad Blood was strong for a good 18 months but I did not even play it in 2018.

Justin Timberlake is another one, but most of his songs have simmered down recently. Can't Stop the Feeling is still big right now. People will dance to Sexy Back, but all his other big songs have faded away by 2018. I guess you could say Suit and Tie, but last time I played that it got a pretty weak reaction. ...And that was probably a year or more ago. ...Rock Your Body is a good throwback, but people won't dance to more than a 60 second snippet of that song these days.

Gaga. ...Not really. Maybe 4 good dance hits, and 2 sort of honorable mentions. I would say I get more requests for Pitbull in 2018 by a long shot over Gaga.

Ed Sheeran. ...Umm no. NOT in the same group as Bruno, Pitbull MJ etc.

Calvin Harris: I like Calvin Harris A LOT. A number of his songs are getting requested in 2018. His stuff is well rounded. Not Super high impact, but generally better than "OK". I don't think his stuff has the impact to be considered in the same group as Bruno, Pitbull, MJ though. ...But he is certainly an accomplished artist in recent years! ...I think Calvin's stuff will be played by DJs at events for many years to come as well. I'm sure he will come out with some great future albums that will be popular in addition to what he has come out with so far.

J Lo, Dnce, Trainor, Ariana

JLO was GREAT 1999 to maybe 2010 or so. After 2010 she would not be a artist I would say is heavily requested. She had a number of songs on the Top 200 dance list 10 years ago. Are any of her songs in the top 200 any more? Certainly a crowd pleaser with many of her hits. ...On The Floor was the last OK one, and it was just that .... "OK"

DNCE? Not in the exclusive top level group of dance hits. ...Their stuff is no more popular than Blink 182, they are just way newer to the scene. Cake is good, but it's not Awesome.

Trainor. ...She has 3 hits, and all of them had typical short stays as dance floor fillers. ...and I don't even think I would consider "No" a dance floor filler. Like I'm gonna lose you is a great listening song that is very popular, but not for dancing. All About the Bass was imo her biggest dance hit. Dear Future Husband was catchy, and is "OK"...Her other stuff..not good dance material imo.

Ariana. Nope. Not the same class. Don't get me wrong. I like a lot of her music, but her songs are popular for maybe 8 or 9 months before they completely fade away.

J Lo is still requested rather frequently - and rose in stardom and income between 2010 and now. Not sure where you're getting your metrics from. On The Floor was released in 2011 - and was a big dance floor hit. She's released some since then as well. Cake By The Ocean was a 2015 release and still gets traction. Trainor has had multiple dance floor hits over the last several years as well as Ariana. Dear Future Husband has had no issues on my floors - and is also a very big hit with Swing dancers. The statement as I understood it was not - 'who has had a hit in the last 9 months' nor was it 'exclusive top level group of dance hits' - it was 'There are not many other artists who have as many songs as he (Pitbull) does in routine rotation at dance parties and weddings across the USA over the past 7 years' - which as shown, is not accurate.

Pretty accurate.

....JLO's o the floor was strong in 2011. Last time I played it which was at a wedding a few weeks ago because it was one of the requests from the bride/groom...I had maybe 7 dancers to it, and I had to mix into another song. JLO's Dinero song that came out this year had about a 6 week stint, and it's not a dance hit.

Trainor's stuff is not BIG imo. Yes, Dear Future Husband is catchy, and get's some dancers, but it's not a floor filler like Pitbull's stuff has been. Yes, Ariana has had a lot of radio hits over the past few years. Break Free was a great dance song a few years ago. Thank U Next is real popular right now. Side to Side was popular. ...These songs are not BIG floor fillers imo. Good, but not floor fillers like Pitbull's stuff has been over the years. ...Ariana's stuff is more great listening music rather than great dance music generally speaking. I like Ariana Grande a lot, and yes, she has a number of hits, but I would not put her stuff in the same group as Pitbull's

Last time I played On The Floor was Sunday night - packed floor.

I'd suggest sticking with Justin Bieber...

You know I often wonder how long Justin Bieber will stick around for. He seems to be doing well doing collaborative songs with others. That new song "No Brainer" with DJ Khaled is being played all over the place over just the last month.

Despacito seems to still be requested although not quite 2 years old yet, and plenty of dancers to it. Most of his other stuff only seemed to last 4 to 10 months or so. ...Sorry had a good long run, and possibly his biggest dance hit outside of Despacito. Love Yourself was a listening song, not a dance hit, but boy did it get major air play for quite a while. "What do you mean" is another hit, but I think I only played it once at a event.

Somebody to Love
Beauty and a Beat

Go back to his original first hits:
One Time
One Less Lonely Girl - All popular girl sing along hits ...Not super danceable, but they got plenty of girls out on the floor back then.

Back in his early days, "Baby" was BIG, and the girls loved to sing a long to it. ...I liked the song "Cold Water" that he did with Major Lazer, but it seemed to only stick for about 2 to 3 months, then it faded away quick. Dunno where his career will go, but his best days might be behind him. ...Or he could be the Justin Timberlake type of act of the future. I personally think Justin Timberlake is more talented, and a better performer, but Beiber probably has just as many fans as JT does.
