Those things were as tough as old get out I had a couple I bought because I needed a backup and didn't trust just one :) I forgot it on the roof of my car one day got about a mile down the road at 55 Mph it flew off. It dented the left hand corner and scraped it a bit but other than that it was fine
Yes!, they really are tough, I am pretty sure it will out live me at this point , but being blown of a roof at 55 and not breaking, that's impressive.

I believe this was the first model I owned... It was not necessarily the right product for what I was doing at the time, but it worked. And it probably was not the worst component in my signal chain.

So when you take in to consideration how many of us had some incarnation of them and how many are still around today they may not have been all that bad after all :)

This was my first mixer, attached to an ADJ MK III DVD.
My first was also a Radio Shack 4-channel w/ EQ on both left and right. Each channel, as I recall, has CD/Phono/Aux. I believe it is a RS 1210. I still have it. I still use it for playing all vinyl sock hops using 45 rpm records on three turntables.

Gemini. Maybe. Don't remember. The first mixer I ever purchased for mobile work was my Urei 1620. I got it from Canal Hi-Fi and I still have it in my Vintage Recording Studio with my 1200s.
I have been to Canal Hi Fi and I wanted that mixer. I just couldn't afford it. I think the first mixer I bought when I came back was a Numark. I went to a Denon 500 and what a difference in the sound quality. You could easily notice the difference.

That was my second mixer. My first one was the $69 version that Radio Shack sold. I bought it with the prize money I got for winning first prize in the North Dartmouth Mall's Be-Bop Back To School Rap Contest in 1987.

I upgraded to the Radio Shack mixer shown in the main photo in college, then went through these:
  • Gemini PMX-2000
  • Gemini PS-727
  • Rane MM8z
  • Denon DN-X500
  • Denon MC6000
  • Pioneer DDJ-SX (currently using)
  • Pioneer DDJ-SZ (currently using)
I still have the Rane mixer set up with my turntables.
You're mixing up the 2. The Denon and Pioneers are controllers with the mixer built in. Those others are true mixers. Those are what we used when I first got started because controllers weren't invented yet.

That Realistic mixer was the first one I paid for.
(I bought it used from a friend)

I started with the good ole Numark,
which was "given" to me by the boss at the multi op.

Every time I look at this it reminds me of the old Radio Shack mixers...A little more advanced though :)
