Would you help a client try to find a venue?

Yep cashiers check or cash day of event
Before I unload and setup
I'll take a check from repeat clients
Generally paid in full no later than two before an event.

Please tell me what drama? I saw this ad on Craigslist and answered the ad by email. As it turned out we don't have the music they wanted for this event. So I decided feeling uncomfortable about doing the event because of this and even if we had the music we wouldn't have known what to play when. Now we were given say 2 weeks then it wouldn't have been a problem getting the music they wanted because I would have done what others have done on here and ask for ideas/help. This event was last minute and we didn't feel comfortable about doing the event since we don't have a clue about Country Music to not do it so it didn't hurt our business moving forward and us doing a bad job at this event.

Youre probably smart to turn it down and you would be smarter to learn country so you don't have to the next time

BUT.....

Now this what I mean when I say a thing about finding oyt about the details for an event and not feeling comfortable about doing the event. When in doubt just simply pass. No need of just taking on an event to make some money and risk ruining the event for the client and their guest. Those who take a gig without being qualified to do the event just to make some money are called gig whores.

What would you do in a situation like this. Being able to adjust and adapt is a big part of this or any business and it saves a lot of stress and drama

Just for future reference for you @MIXMASTERMACHOM here's some lists. You have to do more than read you need to listen see what is what

You I did learn something in this thread. People still use Craigslist. I bet there are high paying gigs to be found on there.
Occasionally an ad will be on there where a client is looking for a DJ to do an event for them and most are clients looking to book a DJ for a rediculously low price. For example I used to see someone looking to book a DJ to do a wedding for $250-300 and saying the DJ could be someone who is a beginner/rookie. I go on there at times looking for other things.

I've done it many many times... for amounts anywhere from $700 to $5000.
I hear you. I just never thought of that. It looks like I lost our contract on my PC. So I have to make a new one. When I made that one there was no Cash App, Zell or anything like that. So that needs to be added in the contract for how a client can make a payment. In the old contract it said if the payment was in a check I needed it by a certain date to see if the check would clear and if it was the day of it was due in cash before the start time for the event..

No you go on there to find gigs and you are the low end DJ who will do a wedding for 250-300. Hell you do them for free.

Send me your email I'll send you a copy I can't seem to upload it here

I do suggest though that you fix the errors and see someone that knows about contracts

NO I WON'T!!!!!!!!!!! If that's all they are willing to pay I will tell them to go find you! Like I said sometimes I go on there looking for a gig and that's not very often. For that price I just found something to do, even if I have nothing to do that day. I go there sometimes looking for certain items someone is selling. It doesn't mean I'm looking to buy. Sometimes I get bored and just surf the internet.

Jeff I'm not sure how I would have handled that situation. That would have depended on what equipment I brought with me to do the event. It looked like you were thinking ahead and was thinking what if the client did want you to play some music yourself at the event? So you brought the right tools to do that and you did it. My guess is you went online to get some music to play at the event. That means having the connection to play the music through your setup. Let me ask if you can remember what was the equipment you used to do that event?

Let me ask since someone made a thread about this did you charge them extra for an early setup?

As I explained in the that thread I had an Ipod (actually an old Iphone) tethered to my phone for internet and plugged in to the board with an aux cable. As far as other equipment I used 2 NX55s and an LS200 ran back to a Soundcraft EFX 12, two Sure Mics, one wireless one wired, and a Sennheiser and no there was no charge for early setup.

Now as I said above if you want a copy of your contract send me your email address

Just emailed it to you
Thanks and one thing that needs to be changed for sure besides some other stuff is instead of the retainer being 50% it needs to be $100. I like Taso's ideal of $300 because if someone for some reason decides to cancel and want their money back it won't be a big deal. Also it helps for people to decide to book us as it doesn't put a strain on them trying to get up the money for the retainer. Anybody having a problem with that can look elsewhere.
