I used a Sennheiser ew-d1 for the first time.
E845 capsule
Retail price $549-$599
Digital 2.4ghz
I bought it used for $300
Pairing couldn't be easier. Just hit "pair" and hold the mic near the receiver. When paired, both the mic and receiver show green. Red if not paired.
Had crystal clear operation all night. The sound was very good.
The battery did seem like it drained a bit faster than my typical mics, but that could be that I got more detailed battery information, so it looked like it was draining quicker.
Not that I really need it, but the unit does offer it's own EQ and auto gain control.
I had no problem with signal anywhere in the hall. The unit does offer a "walk test" feature, allowing you to walk the room and see if there's a spot that could give you signal issues. Just to see what happens when you lose signal, I walked out into the hallway and down a ways, , the signal bars dropped and a caution icon came up. I was pretty far away AND through a wall.
The handheld mic works on 2 AA batteries.
This is only 1 test, but it seems like it works just fine for a wedding. If I was buying new, I'd probably still buy the Sennheiser ew100G4 for the same price. It does seem like the G4 holds the value better. I don't think I could find a G4 for $300.
This unit did come with a hard black plastic case, so that's nice.
