I had to turn on my wife's laptop today to retrieve a mailing address she had on it. It had been off for over 6 months - it has been updating all day.

Does anyone, including Microsoft, REALLY know what is going on with Windows 10? Ongoing, continuous, monstrous updates, or has Microsoft simply entered a new era of "lets throw some crap against the wall and see what sticks"??

I just let my laptop update but I'm running windows 10 pro. It had been about six months since I last let it update and it took about an hour hour and a half to update. I would say there might be something else going on as in a whole day seems way too long. I know you can look to see exactly what the updates are and I can select what updates I want to do. But I'm not sure if that's just a function of the pro version. I haven't had any issues so far with windows 10 but you want to make darn sure the machine doesn't update at a event but it's isn't a quick thing

i haven't been in my studio a lot over the summer but it seems that every time I turn that machine on it's a half hour of updates or more. I run Vista on my main performance machine...It might crash at some point but it won't update :)

VISTA???[emoji1]... You could at least go to Windows 7... can’t get an upgrade though. You have to do a FULL install. But at least with Windows 7, you can turn automatic updates off. The new AIO computer I just bought came with a fresh install of Windows 7. It has been running updates off and on for the last few days. I’m gonna upgrade it to Windows 10, so I don’t really care. I’m just waiting for the new RAM and SSHD drive to come.

I always liked Vista and the machine runs so well I'm scared to change anything...As I mentioned before it's an old machine but it runs like a top and pretty much all I do is play music with it. My other backup machines have 10 on them. My oldest and last resort machine was one I retired it still runs and has XP LOL :embarrassed:

I haven't had any significant upgrades for more than 6 months on Win 10 .. mine is set up to download automatically.

I really liked XP... held on to it as long as I could, but never did Vista at all. Even with having a couple dozen computers, I never had Vista on any computer. Windows 7 was really good too, but it’s time to go. I think I only have a couple of computers left that haven’t been upgraded to Windows 10. It’s not my favorite version of Windows, but they say it’s the LAST... at least the last version you can actually install one time and own. The next version will likely be an annual subscription. NOT looking forward to THAT! I may have to somehow whittle my computers down to a much smaller number.[emoji1]

Next Windows might be cloud based .. like Chrome. Minimal kernel on the machine, everything else is downloaded as needed.
