This topic is not just about speakers. I just decided to make that the title because of the other thread about recommendation for speakers for an perminate install. Please be kind and remember some on here are beginners. So don't be cruel with your response.

I bought those Yamaha DSR 115 speakers because I finally wanted some powered speakers. I listened to 2 other well known brands. I decided on those because they are a very well known brand that has a reputation to keep up. Also I loved the highs. (Pun intended)

When I bought them the price was $750 each. At least that was the price I paid after taxes. I said be kind because my experience is this. Some don't have a lot of money to spend so they what they can afford at the time. Some make the mistake of buying something thinking they are saving money. Only to find out they should have spent the extra money because the one costing more is better. My experience is sometimes you learn from making mistakes. I know I have.
Then there are times I have bought things because of an emergency situation needing something right away..

@MIXMASTERMACHOM, ^^^^ this thread is a HOT MESS!!! Even the title... ending with a preposition. Why not just ask; "Why did you buy the speakers with which you DJ?" Then the incomplete initial post, and the altered quoted version... PURE CRAZINESS!!! ... And seriously... Do we really want to rehash this topic again??? Do you expect different discussions than the 100+ other times? What is it exactly you want to know that will help YOU???

I was visited by the spirits of DJs past .. and they told me not to buy Alto or GTD, so I went with other brands.

Ben Stowe has always treated me right. He hooked me up with a pair of EV ZAX5's when I was on Maui, great speakers and amazing boom for the buck.... I have been pretty loyal to EV and Ben, since then.

It may just be me, but I like having all the same brand of speakers so when I do a show where I need all or a lot of them, it doesn't look all miss-mashed.

I have 2 5's (as I call them), 4 ZLX 12's, 2 ELX 200 12" subs and 2 Live X 18" subs. In a stupid moment of brain deadness I sold my ZXA 1's and the matching subs.

I bought them all because bang for the buck, ease of use and I like the sound, which I know is subjective.

Still using the Bose model 2's. Crystal clear sound that people love and associate with quality.
Small foot print, easy to transport, and an amazing customer care department that helps the company stand behind their products. A product and a company would really need to amaze me to switch.

With all of the sound companies that are bought, sold, acquired, merged, spun off, or changed names, I love that they are a high end, privately owned, successful, American family business

Yeah, and no company is perfect. They just came out with a new mixer this year and it has headphone jack. Looking in the online manual to see how to send a signal to just the headphone output.

You can't. Making the headphone jack useless for DJ's.

Uhhh....what?

Hey Bob I edited the thread so it makes some kind of sense which led to me editing your post to edit out the craziness in the other post I edited which leads you to looking crazy because you speak of the edited post which is no longer there because it`s edited so I wanted to leave this unedited post that really looks crazy to prove you aren`t crazy...

Did I mention I need sleep :)

I am still using four EV T-251+s for my main A system, four EV T-251’s for the B System. Community 2x15” Subs for both

My powered system has PRX512Ms

The Passive systems were design to be scaleable 1 - 3 full range cabs and 0 - 2 sub per side. As I do Outdoor events where it rains, the passive system is able to cope with no issues.

About 25 years I started dealing with companies selling audio Equipment for commercial and live sound. I finally on small company in PA who steers me in the correct direction. As my main system is over 20 years old and getting complements, guess he knows something. I originally was asking for EV 52’s which was a DJ level cab.

Pretty much I would suggest having a source you trust & who is well informed. All my stuff was brought without hearing the cabs based on the minimal specifications giving to my source, He then recommend equipment those exceeded those Specs.

^^^^ This is great advice... not always easy to find that trustworthy and knowledgeable source, depending on the area in which you live. I bought my first speakers at Guitar Center, largely based on the advice of the salesperson. I was naive to think the salesperson was knowledgeable and would help me make the best choice. It wasn’t until I had gained some knowledge and experience myself that I realized the salesperson at Guitar Center probably knew only slightly more about live sound equipment than I. The speakers I bought carried me through the first three years with no problems, but I certainly won’t say that they were the best choice.

I frequently have to educate the sales people at Best Buy, because most know very little about the products they carry, but I didn’t expect that to be the case at a store like Guitar Center... I guess I should have.[emoji1]

My main thrust since almost the beginning of my career (40 years ago) was a sound system that would stop, dead in its tracks, any and audience complaints about anything acoustical for once and for good. Volume, rumble, reverberations, echo, slapback, filling every corner of the facility with clarity, and the list goes on and on. I got tired and frustrated with customers who refused to listen to blue hair seating advice, of having to review every facility's floor plan with customers to develop a DMZ which they ignored anyway and thus the "it's too loud-we can't hear you conundrum. Every complaint was another negative in my desired "rave review word-of-mouth book three more events from every one event completed" goals.

I've purchased and discarded all the major (and minor) brands out there. I won't name them specifically because many here still use them. It wasn't until the release and my purchase of the original Bose PAS systems (since renamed the L1) that I realized and achieved audience audio nirvana.

Since then, I've grown with the evolution of the L1 family (PAS, L1 Classic, L1 Model 1, and now the L1 Model 2) and in each progression of engineering and design any, no I mean ALL, audience audio complaints have disappeared. My hearing returned to normal. My facility referrals sky-rocketed. Now, it is my area's preferred DJ system that all but a few major players are using.

I've heard other so-called arrays. They are tinker-toy copycat wannabees in comparison.

So Mix, you asked and now you have my "why "; free from technical specifications and just my pure business reality.

Began my DJ aspiration with very high-end non-powered speakers and stereo amplifier; Teac, Pioneer and Sansui--3-way, 4-way. I believe the max power for speaker was 240 Watt. Sansui low-end was a 14" subwoofer and I definitely could tell the difference between it and 12". All cabinets were made of wood. My philosophy then was quality of sound and still remains to that end today.
After doing a few events with 4 speakers (tuner/amp had System A and B), it was time to look at more professional audio gear. I purchased a pair of Peavy 15" PS2 Black Widow, bi-biampable 1/4 in jack. While still using a heavy duty tuner/amp it was apparent that I wanted a AB International 3-way amp which had a dedicated subwoofer channel.
Portability meant more to me and the weight of a power amplifier didn't help. And, if the amplifier went, so did the entire sound system...not just one speaker, but all at once. So, I decided that individual power speakers/subs would be the direction for me to go. Started looking at powered speakers and really liked the sound quality of the RCF ART system. Purchased ART200A 12" tops and ART800AS 15" subwoofers, but only one pair. For the next 5-10 years I was set.
I became more skilled in entertaining (weddings and school dances) that I needed more powerful speakers; RCF subs were only 400w and tops 200w.
After hearing the Mackie 1500 (3-way) I "thought" those would make a big difference. After a couple of years using the Mackie 1500's, I learned they didn't "throw" that far out into the crowd...and they were a Bit_h to lug in and out of venues. Decided to sell the Mackie's and keep the RCF for smaller events and wedding/ceremony duty. Traded the Mackie's for a pair of Yorkville NX750PB (750w 15"). Used the RCF subwoofer's for low end. I wasn't satisfied with that setup. I wanted at dedicated subwoofer.
I tried a couple of small Yorkville subs but still didn't have the low end I wanted. Well, I went "big" and never regretted it...until a few years ago when I was forced to downsize my entire sound systems into a single pair of speakers. The 18" Yorkville LS801PB (single subwoofer) was plenty for the events I had been doing. So when downsizing came about...the three Yorkville speakers were a trade-in on the RCF Evox 8's. There have been times since that I regretted the sell off of gear, but one must do what one must under circumstances. As is the case when downsizing most of my lighting, second sound system, road cases, speaker stands were sold off (at a LOSS).
I'm now heading into the sunset...close to DJ retirement but still have a remarkable system in the Evox 8.
End of Story.

I liked the Bose... I even wanted the Bose.[emoji1]... And though I could have bought the Bose, it didn’t seem to be a good business decision for me at the time. As an older person who decided to try DJing part-time (after retiring), the ROI just wasn’t there. Three years later, and having enough history to know how many gigs I could expect in a year, and at what rate, I still could not justify the Bose. I bought the RCF EVOX-8’s and they’re probably the perfect speakers for me... but those Bose would sure have been NICE![emoji4]
