Who is planning on going to the DJ Expo in Atlantic City?

I have friends that are promoters and they have an event on or around their birthday. People pay to come to the event. So they kill 2 birds with one stone.
As you've heard time and time again .. most people do not charge their family and friends to come to their party. This seems to be only common in a 5 miles radius in northern NJ. Promoting and then profiting from your own celebration is not something one should be proud of.

It's REALLY hard to kill just 1 bird with a stone

Why are we stoning birds? You can get a fully-cooked rotisserie chicken for around $5 at most supermarkets. So much easier.

Actually, I would love to go.
But it doesn't seem right to spend all that money on travel, accommodations, and meals...
when I really don't need to buy anything right now.
Oh sure, it's nice to just go and see what's new...
but I don't enjoy seeing nice new stuff, knowing that I can't buy it.

With that being said, if I had the chance to go for free (or close to free)...I would!

I’m in a similar situation. I would LOVE to go, and I still might, but there’s NOTHING I need right now (except for maybe a Denon MC7000[emoji1]). OK... there’s stuff I WANT, but nothing I NEED. My problem is (if you want to call it a problem) I pretty much just buy what I need as soon as I convince myself I need it. Then I pretty much do the same thing when I WANT something. The only difference is; if I NEED something, I’ll pay whatever it takes to get it. If I WANT something, I feel that I have to get it at a great price. It’s all part of the craziness that is me.[emoji1] I really wish I could hold myself back from buying gear I need or want for a few months before the Expo so there would actually be a possibility of buying something.[emoji1]

I really don't need anything either .. still fun to look around. If I haven't picked up a pair of Bose S1 Pro from @Cap Capello before then (Are they going on sale soon Cap???), I'll probably get them there.

As usual I do an outdoor movie on the beach about 30 mins away, so if things work out the way as they have been the past couple years I should be there for at least a day.

The one thing that I’d like to just point out is you don’t go to a show to see what you know you want but to see the stuff and get ideas you didn’t know about. Hence, that is an issue with the DJ Expo now, it doesn't bring that as well as it used to in those respects. But there is usually always some good networking, I’ve met Steve & Cap there, along with other guys I only really see once a year at the Expo. I was looking for Mix 2 years ago but he was MIA for our dinner meeting with Cap & Steve. Gear wise I see much more tech at LDI, NAMM and sometimes CES.

If I still have my full time job in August then I won't be going. If something happens at the full time job, then me going is certainly a possibility. ...Things have gotten hectic at the JOB as the company has got extremely busy coming into our busy season. Went from being a relaxing job to stressful over a matter of 3 weeks, and I hear May and June are even busier than the past 3 weeks have been. If I can make it through the craziness of the next 60 days there then I should still have my job and not be attending the DJ Expo. If I am unemployed come the DJ Expo, then sure, I will go ahead and make the trip up for 1 night, LOL.

It's REALLY hard to kill just 1 bird with a stone ... and putting on an event around your birthday, that you expect your friends and family to PAY to attend, is less "promoter" and more "grifter".
Nobody is paying to come to the event in the park. Just looking to have a good time and people showing up to dance their ass off to some great house music.

The paying was in reference to the other "birthday" parties thrown by your friends.
