Just asking this question because we don't do a lot of advertising but need to. I got at least 2 listing on FB. I'm just not crazy about FB because some people post stupid crap up there and I hate that.

Before we answer where to advertise, why don't you tell us what type of gigs you're looking to book?

You fish in different places for different clients. If you're serious and want help, let us know what you're trying to accomplish first.

Weddings, Birthday celebrations, anniversaries and social dances. One other thing. Family reunions.

Mix, the music you seem to want to DJ is so specific, that I think you'd be better off hosting a party than trying to get booked.

Find some venue that is normally slow on an off night like a Tuesday or Thursday. Ask them if they'd give you 20% of bar sales on anything above their average night over the last 8 weeks.

Use Canva to develop a flyer for free, and then spend $5 printing a bunch of them on brightly colored paper. And start putting those flyers around the neighborhood to promote your House Music party.

You are more likely to have success in building an audience for your genre than getting booked at a party that wants what you do.

^ This plan will cost you $5 and some time. If it doesn't work... you haven't lost anything. If you run facebook ads, you'll spend a lot more, and will be less likely to make money.

The hidden benefit to my plan is that your flyers should also include a section with your DJ contact information. And you might get calls directly from that versus people coming to your party.

You can market your business with money or sweat. When you don't have money, you've got to rely on sweat. If you could burn hundreds of dollars optimizing your ads and trying to find an audience, facebook might be worth it. But I'd be that's not what you're trying to do.

Love it or hate it, FB reaches out to a lot of people. Join local FB pages/groups and throw your name out there once in a while. Can't hurt. Also, for some of the gigs it sounds like you're looking for, reach out to the local venues that normally host these events. Those types of gigs around me would be fire halls, small hotel event rooms, VFW, Moose/Elks lodge, etc. Go talk to the venues. Maybe work out a deal with one or some of them. Maybe you charge $500 for a party like this. Tell them you'll give them $100 for the referral. Maybe not that much of your profit, but you get the idea. Let them know what jobs you're looking for. It's not totally uncommon for someone throwing a party to call a venue to reserve it and say "know of any good DJ's?". Grant it, I'm still learning the art of marketing myself, but it seems that you can't have too many friends in this business. The more people who know you, the better your odds are.

Mix you’re only into working for a certain type of client, not just a certain type of event. So you gotta find those niche clients. If you advertise on Facebook, 99% of the inquiries will be for events that want music you don’t know or don’t like. If you want that, then fine, advertise on fb.
Or you can do as Ross said and target those niche clients. It seems word of mouth isn’t doing it, so creating events that allow you to play the music you like and attract those perspective buyers may be best.

Let me say that's where my partner comes in. Stuff that I'm not good at he is and the same thing for him. Stuff he's not good at I cover the event.

So when the call comes in, who answers it? Because if you pick up the phone, and it's a mainstream client wanting to talk about ed sheeran, rihanna, and megan the stallion for their event... what are you gonna do? If you say I have to transfer you to someone else, that's not really a good look.

I handle the call and if I agree to do the event then I contact my partner to let him know about the event that we have to do.

Im asking what do you do when the client has questions about music you’re not familiar with. Since that may be what the majority of clients you get through normal advertising will want.
Also how can you agree to a party with music that you’re not familiar with, without having to speak to your partner first. You said you let your partner know about the event AFTER you’ve agreed to do it, meaning you didn’t consult with him. It appears you don’t have a process in place.

Yeah you want to do those things but only for people 50 and over.
There you go with your crap again and as usual you're wrong. Sorry I missed this post. Now let me say this if you read this. Don't post anything else in a thread I make or post I put on here until you get some balls and post something you have done on here. I know others on here have said you have posted things on here you've done. I've never seen anything you posted on here that you've done. At least I'm not afraid to post stuff on here that I have done. I'm calling you out! Until you do I can't respect you and until you do leave me alone!

We both get calls. I try to get as much info as I can to find out the details of an event before I will agree to do the event and then relay it to my partner about the event. I know he can easily cover that kind of stuff. Now if it's something I know we both are not used to then I will talk it over with him first before we agree to do it or not. If it's out of our league then we pass.

Got to agree Adrian but face book can work. You need a business page.

I agree but you can just ignore them and run your page. They get stupid on your page you remove them
