This was inspired by the thread regarding turning down aan event if your equipment wasn't up to it....

I have 4 setups ( different amps and speakers matched for each):

5000w, 3500w, 1800w, and the mini @ 750w ( Yes, I can stack, but for purposes of this question I'm talking about standard setups)

Over the years I have found need to upgrade on occasion, but I have no immediate plans for more power in the future. Having the different setups has, among other things, allowed me to price more competively...

Anyway, the question is twofold:

What is your maximum power setup, and if you wish more, how MUCH more?

Big rig for me would be using all 6 towers at one time.

Most I've ever used at one time is 4.

A big rig for me is usually two PM5D's, 4-6 line arrays (prefer powered), delays, FOH fills, subs, 24-48 wireless (mics and IEMs), 48-72 movers, 60-80 LEDs, motorized truss, a center screen (or LED wall), 2 side screens, 5 projectors, 5-7 cameras, production switcher, etc.

If I want to set it up

I still have 8 10", 6 12", 8 15", mains, 2 12", 2 215" mid bass, 8 18" subs all passive.

For power I can still muster 20,000 watts with the above passive speakers.

I also have 7 powered speakers, 2 12" Peavey Impulse, 5 12" RCF.

If I want to pull them out of the studio I also have 2 EV ZX1s available!

But I find that it is a lot simpler for me to just make a phone call when big sound is needed and have it setup by a local sound company I work with!

The most "I" would personally do would be 2-B52 Matrix 1000's, 2 Bose L1 and 4 B2's.
That will cover any wedding I will ever need to do.

When I was doing school dances, I had an audio company come out and setup 4- dbl 18's and 2 dbl 15's.
I also hired a lighting company to come out and setup 50 DMX lights with an engineer to run them. It was pretty nice when all I had to do was setup my booth and watch people work.

Cool, a penis comparison thread... :sqlaugh:

Funny thing you brought this up Joe, but when I plugged my new PS3 into the stereo today, Indian Point #2 went thermal! :sqerr:

Now, I'm not saying it had anything to do with the farm, but I'm just saying, y'know... :sqcool:

I'm packing roughly 12,000 watts at the present time.

But come tax time or maybe sooner if a deal comes up, I'll be adding a QSC PL380 to my rig. Really want to power all (4) double 18's with one giant amp.

Many Configurations that can be added together:
Outdoor Sound:

Ashly 3-way Stereo Crossover
Bose Controller (2 way crossover/bi amp)

Added to that will be Main Party Rig:
4 JBL 4530 Bass Scoops each Loaded with 2205J 16ohms
Powered by two Amps
2 EV DH 1506 Midrange Drivers Loaded on 10"x26" Wide Dispersion Horn
Powered by one Amp
2 Tweeter Banks (Each with 4 EV St350 Drivers
Powered by one Amp

For Extra Mains:
2 JBL JRX125
Powered by one amp

For Fill/Small System (Bi-amped)

2 Bose 802s
Powered by one Amp
1 Subwoofer
Powered by one Amp

Everything can be Hooked up as a full outdoor/large dance unit!
I need to take pictures of the Individual Systems and then everything. See my album for more pics. http://www.ourdjtalk.com/album.php?albumid=8

Well... we can't match the rigs some of you folks load. Our top RMS power is 6KW triamped. That's a pair of dual 10" 2-ways, pair of dually 15" 2-ways and pair of single 18" trapezoid subs. It's way overkill for most shows we'd get asked to do but it's truly not my definition of a big rig.

My definition of a big rig is those huge line arrays you see in outdoor concert venues. You know... you can hear the deep bass warmth when you pull into the parking lot. :)

you guys are defining big in number of watts, which really has nothing to do with it. The bigger rigs that are horn loaded actually use less watts than front loaded in-efficient designs.

For me the standard rig is 4 subs and 2 mains, and bigger is 6 subs and 4 mains. I can easily cover a thousand with this setup and only use 1 outlet for power to the mains. Each sub gets about 600, each main about 400, and it's plenty of power.

You are absolutely correct! When you take into consideration addition of gain values from several processing sources, you can derive more power to the amps. This is why I do not post wattages of my rig. All but two of my amps are brute force amps with raw power.

Thanks, but again, how many WATTS do you want to push?

....and what WATTAGE do you want to push above 20K?

So about 5200w?
