Yes, we have 3 box rentals, and a modem/router rental. Our previous modem just died. It was 5 years old, and we replaced it at the Comcast store a couple weeks ago. We have been Comcast customers a real long time. The longer you are a customer, the more you get to pay for service! Strange how it works like that!

I have tried every avenue to cut the cable. Shown all the costs of the various streaming services multiple times. Wife won't have it.

We do have a Amazon Firestick with Prime, and I pay for Disney Plus, and we have Hulu as well. We can get Netflix when we want...Sister in Law has an account and barely uses it.
You could save money on router rentals .. the cheapest would pay for itself in a year (or less). There's absolutely no reason to be paying them for a router / modem.

As for lunches, unless you're making Ramen, it's ALWAYS cheaper to make your own lunches, chips and drinks included.

We did this once years ago. Had problems with the router enough times that the final time when it died, and we had Comcast out here trying to diagnose the problem which was the router, they gave us a router and had it up and running in no time...Then we were back to renting the router. I think that is what happened if I remember correctly. I think we saved on router rental fees for like 12-18 months maybe. Had issues with it every other month it seemed though.

If you deal with enough issues out of a piece of equipment, it just causes you to go back to what you know and were comfortable with using.

The trick to that is buy a good router saving a few bucks there is just a recipe for a headache.

If I were you I'd call around you have many choices in your area. play them off each other they will almost always give you an introductory offer of some sort around here it usually lasts a year when the year is up do it again. I cut the cable almost 3 years ago no one was watching except me the odd time for sports. I found alternatives for that. I pay $112 for Internet 100 down 10 up but I live rural I have 2 choices here take it or leave it. That price includes the router which they give me for "free" there's no savings not taking it

Agreed - which is why I try to buy quality. I'm not saying you didn't - but I've always owned my own and I've only had a problem once with one modem. Replaced it and been golden since. I also upgrade as needed. By renting, you're getting bottom of the barrel equipment for prime pricing. I guarantee that Comcrapst is not interested in giving you quality equipment - mediocre at best.

Taso let me say this. You raising your price by 15% works great for you because the people who you attract to your business are people who easily can afford your price. You built your business model to where it is today so most people like Bob Carpenter know what your prices are and know that you're not doing events for $500-1k because you have no need to. You have plenty of clients willing to pay your price.

Now I didn't say that to blow smoke up his butt. I like Taso because he doesn't come on here and do what Bob does. Bob loves to put others down regularly on here. I noticed that. If you're not close to his level in terms of money and doing things his way, then you're beneath him. That's what I hate about Bob. Now I don't like to judge a DJ until I see them for myself. The song by Stevie Wonder fits Bob, he's Mr. Know it all. Steve Arrington said it best, Nobody Can Be You But You.

No sir. I'm just tired of Bob regularly putting others down because he needs to let us know he's DJ God. Lol.

Verizon FIOS forces you to use their brand of router if you want to be able to use their cable guide on your TV. I tried to use a better router for my network only, but it never worked well.

Modem, I might agree (Comcrapst does too to a certain degree). Your router (Internet) has little to do with the TV. I could see your router impacting a streaming TV service.

Allow me to clarify. FIOS told me I'd have to continue to use their router as a modem, but I could use another source as my internet connection.

I tried that and it was like FIOS was refusing to let go...

This is what I was told too, so I was stuck with their modem until I moved off their cable box services entirely.

Lol, I don't think Bob has made an appearance on these boards in at least 6-7 years.

I think he was talking about Bob Moffett (Proformance). The other Bob is busy with conspiracy theories lately ;)He is a member here but I just searched him he hasn't been here since '07

Yeah my bad...Sometimes I skim over certain posts rather than exposing myself to them fully ;)

It appears the issue is that the Verizon FiOS set top boxes rely on MoCA technology (connected through their router) to get to the Internet - which is where they pull the guide from. It appears that you can also use your own router - Use your own router on FiOS (Fix Tv Guide)
