I believe other "higher end" brands have been mentioned here in the past. I think one brand started with an "L" . These are likely brands utilized for TV and Production. What are they?

I know for us DJs Shure seems to be the cream of the crop. Sennheiser is probably #2 with a couple of options they offer. What other brands are out there that are just as good, or better than Shure that we could consider using? Question #2. Are these brands worth utilizing over Shure for us DJs?

I have a Sure but for sound quality I prefer the Sennheiser. Both are above average. I've used the EV RE3 the sound quality is comparable to it's wired cousin the RE20

Are you thinking Line 6? I've rented/used them as single units and as multiple on a couple of production gigs. They are comparable to the Sure and Sennheiser in the same price range

Audio Technica has been around a long time and is very reliable. Why are asking?

First mic I ever bought was an AT wired. I loved it still do. 33 years and works as good as new. I still carry it in my kit and use it in certain situations

My Dad, bro, and sis all used Audio Technica back in the 90s. They seemed to be more popular back then! They had both wired, and their very popular wireless mic. When I started deejaying they started using VocoPro mics, and liked the sound of the Vocopro better.

I am asking to expand horizons on the subject matter. Also, I don't plan to purchase any new microphones this year, but it's a candidate for new equipment in 2023. My Shure PGX unit is quite aged, but still works well. My Shure BLX still works fine and I probably have many more years with it. I have GTD mics, and Voco Pro mics. The GTD I have not used in a very long time, but are in my bag as an additional back up.

Had good luck with telex back in the late 80's early 90's than went to AT than RE3's

Most brands have multiple product lines that overlap each other in capabilities. It is hard to say a "brand" is best as many of the high-end systems are geared to particular markets that have different needs. However, if you are talking about the top brands, you would want to include:
  • Shure Axient line
  • Sennheiser 6000 series
  • Lectrosonics
  • Wysicom
  • Q5X
In this league you can expect to pay $2000-$5000 per channel.

I believe Lectrosonics is the one I was referring to that started with the L. I am going to check these out!

I’ve been using sennheiser ew series for years. most all g4 currently. I cant say they are better than Shure brands in a similar price point As I haven’t used them much. But the ew’s ive been very happy with.

im sure they aren’t as good as the ones Jon is referring to.

Some simply need mics costing over 1K and some don't. I like the Shure BLX I bought a while ago. They work well for what we do. There are a lot of brands out there. From cheap to super expensive. I just say 2 big things. Stick with a well known brand and don't go too cheap. I have been there and done that.
